Job description:

The Ohio Valley Goodwill Industries, established in 1916, stands as one of Ohio’s foremost providers of rehabilitation services. Through our extensive retail store network, we generate revenue to support thousands of individuals with disabilities and local homeless veterans.

The Donation Attendant is responsible for delivering outstanding customer service to donors and customers at our retail locations. This role involves greeting donors, accepting donations, and issuing receipts. Additionally, the attendant prepares donations for processing and efficiently manages merchandise in a fast-paced setting.

As a member of Ohio Valley Goodwill, you will be expected to maintain a flexible schedule to support store opening, production, and closing operations, which includes weekend and holiday shifts.

Required Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of six months of relevant work experience or equivalent educational/vocational training is preferred.
  2. Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service to all donors and customers.
  3. Proficiency in English to effectively interact with customers and team members.
  4. Strong verbal communication skills for engaging with Associates and customers.
  5. Ability to perform continuous physical activity, including walking, stooping, standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, and climbing for extended periods.
  6. Capacity to lift up to 35 pounds frequently.
  7. Willingness to be trained in the safe operation of a big joe stacker and pallet jack (age 18+).

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Capability to motivate and inspire team members.
  2. Previous experience in a warehouse environment.
  3. Familiarity with pallet packing and forklift operations.
  4. Basic computer skills.
  5. Multilingual, with fluency in English.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide exceptional customer service to donors and customers.
  2. Foster a welcoming environment by greeting donors and safely unloading donations from vehicles.
  3. Complete donor receipts and provide a copy to each donor.
  4. Sort donated items into designated categories.
  5. Adhere to safety and security practices, reporting hazards and injuries to the Retail General Manager, Assistant Manager, or Supervisor on duty.
  6. Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with Goodwill uniform standards.
  7. Comply with all Ohio Valley Goodwill policies, including reporting theft, misuse of company property, or other illegal activities.
  8. Demonstrate ethical behavior in alignment with Corporate Compliance standards.
  9. Follow the work schedule set by your supervisor.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Assist truck drivers and their assistants with loading/unloading donations into company vehicles for transport to/from other store locations.
  2. Uphold a professional appearance in compliance with Goodwill standards and the OVGI dress code.
  3. Perform general housekeeping duties as required, including janitorial tasks such as restroom maintenance and trash removal from the parking lot.
  4. Effectively communicate Ohio Valley Goodwill’s mission and vision to donors and customers.
  5. Undertake other duties as directed.
