About Us: Eight million Americans are one paycheck away from homelessness, and within Washtenaw County, 5,000 individuals currently experience this reality. Established in 1982, the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County (SAWC) is the primary provider of emergency shelter and supportive services for individuals facing homelessness in the area. Situated at the Robert J. Delonis Center in downtown Ann Arbor, SAWC assists a diverse population, including first-time homeless individuals, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, and those grappling with substance abuse or mental health challenges. Our core programs encompass Residential Emergency Shelter, Non-Residential Services, Shelter Diversion, Critical-Time Intervention, and a Warming Shelter, serving nearly 1,500 individuals each year.

Mission: Our mission is straightforward: End homelessness, one individual at a time.

Position Profile: The selected candidate will be an integral member of the Shelter Operations Team, responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of shelter floors during assigned shifts. Key responsibilities include maintaining the safety and well-being of all guests and executing duties in alignment with the overarching mission of the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County.

Compensation for this role ranges from $18.50/hour to $19.50/hour, commensurate with length of service and the specific position applied for. We currently have six part-time roles available, which offer access to benefits including paid time off, an employee assistance program, and opportunities for ongoing professional development. Available positions include, but are not limited to, the following shifts:
– Saturday 2nd Floor Prime (5 PM – 11 PM)
– Sunday Front Desk AM (6 AM – 2:30 PM)
– Monday Front Desk AM (6 AM – 2:30 PM)
– Friday Front Desk PM (2 PM – 10:30 PM)
– Saturday Front Desk PM (2 PM – 10:30 PM)
– Sunday AM Support (7:45 AM – 4:15 PM)
– Various overnight shifts throughout the weekends (times listed in original description)
– Saturday and Sunday AM weekend cleaning/support (7:45 AM – 4:15 PM), with a set pay of $19.50/hour.

General Responsibilities:
1. Uphold SAWC’s mission of ending homelessness.
2. Engage with clients in a non-judgmental and ethical manner, adhering to the NASW Code of Ethics.
3. Oversee operations on various shelter floors.
4. Familiarize oneself with and implement SAWC policies and procedures.
5. Ensure all clients are properly checked in upon arrival.
6. Provide supportive, empathetic, and confidential assistance to clients.
7. Accurately document client information and activities in HMIS and staff notes.
8. Perform light cleaning tasks within the facility and manage the ordering of supplies.
9. Welcome and orient new clients regarding floor rules and communal living expectations.
10. Communicate appropriately with management regarding client leaves of absence, late arrivals, and other policy-related inquiries.
11. Demonstrate willingness to work holidays, if required.
12. Arrive punctually for all shifts and utilize the time clock to record hours.
13. Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
– Associate’s Degree, professional certification, or equivalent experience is required. Related experience is preferred. Knowledge of housing, mental health, chemical dependency, and poverty issues is advantageous. Experience in social work, social services, or human services is also beneficial.
