Job Overview
We are seeking an individual to provide comprehensive leadership for the facility and operational needs of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) and its several satellite facilities. As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for managing professional and student staff, strategic planning, fiscal oversight, facility and project management, and the establishment of relevant policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to formulate and achieve the department’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Directly supervise full-time staff, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and developing performance plans, while also indirectly overseeing student staff.
  • Lead and mentor the Facilities and Operations team, cultivating a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee all facility and operational needs, including project management, HVAC oversight, event management, climbing wall programming, scheduling, and staffing.
  • Work closely with Facilities Management to set priorities, responsibilities, and schedules, ensuring facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained, conducting regular safety inspections.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders on the procurement of fitness equipment and oversee preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for construction and renovation projects, liaising with the Campus Recreation team, architects, and contractors.
  • Manage contracts and agreements with vendors for capital purchases.
  • Interpret and implement industry best practices related to safety and risk management, including security systems and technology equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, manage safety protocols, maintain records of incidents, and serve as a liaison with UC Risk Management and other relevant departments.
  • Provide fiscal oversight for operating and capital budgets, prioritizing and approving purchase requests while resolving budget discrepancies.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare reports on facility usage, member feedback, and other relevant data.
  • Maintain professional expertise regarding best practices in facility and operational trends, implementing appropriate products and services.
  • Participate in departmental, divisional, and university committees, and may be assigned special projects to support Campus Recreation and the University.
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings as needed.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Alternatively, nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or specialized training may substitute for the education requirement.

Required Trainings/Certifications

  • Certification/Licensure: Must possess American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid certification or obtain it within six (6) months of employment.

Required Experience

  • Five (5) years of direct and progressive experience in facility operations, maintenance, custodial services, and safety regulations within a recreation, municipal, or athletic context.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Three (3) years of professional staff supervision experience, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff while maintaining performance standards.
  • Experience in developing and managing operating and capital budgets across multiple cost centers.
  • Strong background in facilities and operations, encompassing maintenance, housekeeping services, project coordination, and event planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and supervise staff effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills with the capability to identify problems, assess alternatives, and make well-informed decisions.
  • Excellent professional communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a collaborative, detail-oriented environment.
  • A passion for student and staff development and mentorship.
  • Proficiency in various related systems, including Rec Automation, Connect2Concepts, Microsoft Office, SubItUp, and Canva.
  • Physical capability to assist in event setup and equipment relocation, with the ability to lift over 45 lbs.
