Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. Our drivers ensure timely and safe delivery of products while serving as the face of our company, fostering enduring relationships with our customers.
Drivers are responsible for operating both tractor trailers and straight trucks on local, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver and unload food and related products according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations in a safe and timely manner.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Professionally communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring accurate and timely responses to inquiries
– Collaborate effectively as a team member to fulfill duties that best serve the company
– Conduct required safety checks, including pre/post-trip inspections, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards
– Report any safety issues or necessary repairs promptly
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies
– Immediately address safety hazards and ensure proper loading and securing of freight
– Conduct item count checks and validate customer invoices for loaded products
– Complete all necessary paperwork related to freight accurately and neatly
– Transport tractor to loading docks and attach preloaded trailers as needed
– Follow designated delivery routes to ensure timely delivery of customer orders
– Unload products and transport them to designated storage areas at customer locations
– Perform damage control checks, scan items, and report issues to supervisors per company policy
– Confirm delivery with customers and obtain necessary signatures
– Collect payments (cash or checks) as required, load customer returns onto the trailer, and secure trailer doors
– Ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are always locked and secured
– Handle unloading of damaged goods and customer returns, completing requisite paperwork
– Maintain accurate daily records of hours of service in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
– Carry out general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and ensure trailers are kept clear and clean
– At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete required paperwork
– Perform additional related duties as assigned
Qualification:
– Minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience
– High school diploma, GED, or state-approved equivalent
– Valid CDL A
– Compliance with all State licensing and certification requirements (where applicable)
– Must be at least 21 years old
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years
– Successful completion of post-offer drug test and criminal background check
– Passing grade on road test
– Valid DOT Health Card or capability to secure a new one
– Ability to lift and utilize equipment to move product cases/freight ranging from 10-35 pounds, and up to approximately 60-90 pounds depending on location
