SENIOR ASSISTANT CORPORATION COUNSEL
MUNICIPAL

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare ordinances and legal opinions.
  • Attend various meetings across all levels of City government.
  • Serve as a legal specialist for assigned clients facing specialized legal issues.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis on complex issues with significant implications for the City.
  • Provide legal counsel during meetings and at various City government levels.
  • Serve as counsel for multiple City boards and commissions.
  • Advise clients through email memoranda, telephonic consultations, and in-person meetings regarding legal questions and procedures.
  • Research, review, and analyze relevant statutes, case law, and Attorney General Opinions to deliver legal advice and opinions.
  • Act as a lead person for other attorneys when necessary.
  • Maintain monthly statistics and complete other administrative tasks, including calendar management and organized file maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:

  • Techniques of legal research, particularly in municipal corporation law.
  • State and Federal statutes relevant to municipal corporation law.
  • Municipal Codes and Ordinances.
  • Michigan "Sunshine Laws" and the Michigan Home Rule City Act.

Skills in:

  • Legal research and writing.
  • Analyzing and assessing complex legal issues and pertinent legislation.
  • Effective problem-solving techniques.
  • Organization, planning, and managing multiple priorities.
  • Interpersonal communication.

Ability to:

  • Coordinate efforts among multiple clients and their representatives.
  • Exercise independent judgment and proactively manage legal matters.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate Degree from an ABA-approved institution.
