The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Transportation Operations Supervisor at our Columbus, OH location.

Scope: This leadership role requires demonstrated experience in managing personnel and overseeing the planning of approximately 60,000 truckloads, 100,000 less-than-truckload shipments, and 2.3 million parcel deliveries, contributing to roughly $2.9 billion in revenue. The area typically incurs an annual expenditure between $60 million to $80 million, working with a supplier base that includes 50 TL carriers, 17 LTL carriers, and one parcel carrier. Responsibilities will include providing operational support across multiple plants and distribution centers, as well as utilizing Transportation Management Systems. Occasional travel (approximately 5%) is required for customer and carrier visits.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise the Transportation Planner II team in executing transportation supply chain processes to meet or exceed customer expectations and supply chain objectives.
  • Manage operational execution for Freight to Customer (FTC), Internal Deployment (ITD), Inbound Finished Goods (IBFG), International Drayage, and Inbound Raw Materials (IBRM).
  • Plan freight logistics and analyze carrier-specific performance data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers to ensure high standards of customer service.
  • Foster relationships with Third Party Providers, Quality Assurance, Customer Service Operations, Global Purchasing, Finance, and Carrier Operations teams, ensuring alignment with division goals.
  • Uphold ethical standards and compliance with company policies throughout business operations.
  • Supervise daily activities of the Transportation Planners and utilize Transportation Management Systems effectively.
  • Support the development and implementation of transportation operational and procurement strategies that align with cost profiles and customer service expectations.
  • Manage routing compliance and oversee Spot Market shipments to ensure cost efficiency.
  • Review and approve assessorial charge requests and maintain an accurate transportation event log.
  • Coordinate carrier operational meetings to drive continual improvements and maintain documentation of Transportation Procedures in the Global Logistics Procedure Database.
  • Support departmental projects to align with division objectives, and provide coverage during weekends and nights as needed.

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics or a related field in Business Management.
  • 3-4 years of experience in Transportation or Logistics management.

Preferred:

  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with SAP and Transportation Management Systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, Power Point) is essential; advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs, are necessary.
  • Ability to manage and organize extensive data files.
