Job description:

We are seeking dedicated Food and Food Service Delivery Drivers who play a vital role in the national food supply chain. Our drivers ensure that customer products are delivered on-time and in excellent condition, serving as the face of our company and fostering lasting relationships with clients.

Drivers will operate a tractor-trailer or straight truck on various routes, delivering and unloading food and food-related products in a safe and timely manner, compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain professional communication and interaction with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring accurate and timely responses to inquiries.
  • Collaborate as a team member within the department and organization, executing any assigned duties that best serve the company.
  • Conduct all required safety inspections (pre/post trip) on the tractor/truck and trailer as per DOT regulations; ensure vehicle safety standards are met and take appropriate action when necessary.
  • Report safety concerns and necessary repairs promptly.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies.
  • Identify and report safety hazards; ensure trailers are properly loaded and secured.
  • Perform count checks and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
  • Maneuver tractors to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as required.
  • Execute deliveries according to a predetermined route schedule.
  • Unload products and deliver them to designated customer storage areas.
  • Assess damage and contact supervisors if items need to be removed as per company policy.
  • Confirm deliveries with customers and obtain appropriate signatures.
  • Collect payments (cash or checks) when required; load customer returns onto the trailer and secure trailer doors.
  • Ensure tractors, trailers, and freight are securely locked at all times.
  • Handle damaged goods and customer returns, completing any necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain daily records of hours of service in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties in tractors, loading dock areas, and trailers as necessary.
  • At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Undertake additional related duties as assigned.

Compensation:

  • Average annual pay range of $80,000 – $90,000.
  • Weekly sign-on bonus of $500 for the first 30 weeks.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months of commercial driving experience.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent.
  • Valid CDL A and compliance with all state licensing/certification requirements.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
  • Ability to pass a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Successful completion of a road test.
  • Valid DOT Health Card or ability to obtain a new one.
  • Physical ability to lift and utilize various equipment for moving and stacking product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights (generally 10-90 pounds).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 months of commercial driving experience.
  • Experience in the foodservice distribution industry.
  • Background in touch freight and manual labor.
  • Familiarity with onboard computer systems and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
  • Experience with handheld point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
  • Customer service experience.
