We are currently inviting applications for the position of Machine Helper on the 2nd Shift (3 openings) at our Akron, OH facility, offering a competitive salary range of $21.88 – $22.23 per hour.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Assist in machine setup using established techniques.
- Monitor box quality, identifying issues related to liner, scoring, folding, print, and glue application, and communicate concerns to the operator and fellow helpers.
- Ensure finished boxes are correctly stacked for unitizing and/or palletizing.
- Understand and follow instructions from the factory card and the operator.
- Maximize equipment utilization by effectively supporting the operator to operate machinery at optimal capacity and speed.
- Aid in training new helpers in machine operations.
- Complete necessary reports accurately and promptly, including Production Data, Machine Operational Status, Safety Data, Lean Enterprise, and Quality Data.
- Submit maintenance work orders to supervision as needed.
- Proactively maintain equipment.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safety and housekeeping.
- Follow the production schedule and recommend optimizations to meet cost, quality, and service objectives.
- Report any unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
- Collaborate with crew members to maximize operational efficiency.
- Rotate duties with crew members, including operating, feeding, pulling, stacking, and packing as required.
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and work rules, including safety and housekeeping standards.
- Be prepared for other duties, responsibilities, and activities that may be assigned at any time, with or without notice.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Capability to lift up to 45 pounds.
- Willingness to work overtime on short notice, including weekdays and weekends.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, adapting to varying temperatures and heavy forklift traffic.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a packaging or manufacturing environment.
- Background in folding and gluing machine operations.
- Prior experience as a crewmember on a machine crew.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team, effectively communicating with members while also working independently.
- Proficiency in following and executing written and verbal instructions.
