Job description:
Position Details: This is a part-time position requiring 2-3 shifts per week. The successful candidate will predominantly work the midnight shift from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with flexibility to cover day and evening shifts as needed. A mandatory orientation is scheduled for the first week, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The minimum hourly rate for this position is $18.19.

Job Summary: Under the supervision of the Manager of Patient Access, this role is responsible for the accurate and timely registration of patients, ensuring the collection of personal and biographical data in accordance with established check-in processes. The position involves rotation through various departments, including but not limited to emergency services, outpatient care, and laboratories.

Essential Functions:
– Schedule appointments as required by the department, and perform patient registration activities, including pre-registration, which encompasses gathering insurance information and entering medical and demographic data, as well as appropriate diagnostic ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 CPT coding to guarantee billing accuracy.
– Answer phone inquiries and direct calls courteously and efficiently.
– Communicate information to patients and family members in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
– Prepare patient liability estimations for both pre-scheduled and walk-in services.
– Prioritize work effectively.
– Employ effective communication skills to uphold Corewell Health standards while serving patients, colleagues, and physician offices.
– Operate standard office equipment, including Microsoft systems, calculators, photocopiers, and fax machines.
– Collaborate with the Pre-service Center and/or physician’s office to obtain or modify authorizations in line with imaging protocols or script compliance.
– Provide transportation and assistance to patients using a wheelchair, as required.
– Inform patients of any delays in appointment times upon request.
– Contact the physician’s office or Quest Labs when patients arrive without necessary scripts or labs.
– Actively participate in safety initiatives and risk mitigation measures, completing all position and unit safety-related competencies and requirements promptly.
– Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required:
– High School Diploma.
– Familiarity with ICD-9 and ICD-10 CPT coding, medical terminology, and general knowledge of the revenue cycle.
– Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
– Proficiency in various information systems, including experience with spreadsheet and word processing software.

Preferred:
– At least one year of relevant experience in a customer service role or within the healthcare industry.
