Job Overview
The candidate will execute master mechanical work and supervise a team of skilled mechanical technicians.

Essential Functions

  • Perform repairs on a variety of mechanical equipment including fans, mechanical seals, bearings, pumps, motors, laboratory equipment, autoclaves, glass washers, water purification systems, utility systems, and structural elements. Responsibilities also include welding and brazing.
  • Periodically inspect and test installed equipment to ensure proper assembly and operation according to technical orders, blueprints, specifications, manuals, and established procedures.
  • Oversee repairs and troubleshooting of complex steam pressure-reducing systems and safety devices, including condensate return devices and steam traps. Conduct water treatment and testing with applicable chemicals, and inspect critical laboratory exhaust systems, such as fume hoods, for air balance.
  • May lead and supervise, instruct, and train semi-skilled and skilled Air Quality workers and tradespeople. Assist supervisors with work assignments and evaluate the performance of new trainees, while coordinating with other trades.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within designated work areas.
  • Perform additional duties as needed in alignment with departmental requirements. This job description is subject to change at any time.

Required Education

  • A valid certificate from an accredited related apprenticeship program, or equivalent specialized training combined with two (2) years of relevant work experience may be substituted for the educational requirement.

Required Training/Certifications

  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Required Experience

  • A minimum of one (1) year of related experience is required.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Frequent physical activities including standing, walking, bending, climbing, and lifting (up to and over 50 pounds).
  • Exposure to outdoor environments, noise, and various physical hazards.
  • Regular requirement for communication and auditory skills.
