Job description:
As a Coating Technician, you will play a critical role on the coating line, with the potential to engage in various workstations including the face unwind, liner unwind, main console/winder, and PMA lab. You may become proficient in multiple coating assets at your designated location. Your primary responsibilities will include leading the daily operations of the coater, overseeing machine setups and changeovers, troubleshooting issues, coordinating preventive maintenance, and making informed decisions regarding machine adjustments. You will also provide direction and assign tasks to fellow team members assigned to your machine, working on a schedule of 7 am to 7 pm, following a 2-2-3 rotation as part of the B Team.
In this pivotal role, you will also be expected to:
- Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety procedures, policies, and practices.
- Maintain a safe working environment for all employees and promptly escalate any safety concerns. Support initiatives aimed at improving safety.
- Load raw materials into machines and unload finished products.
- Conduct routine tests and quality checks on products, using standard measuring equipment and exercising judgment in accordance with established standards.
- Meet production schedules and optimize production sequences to enhance efficiency.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and follow instructions from higher-level technical personnel, monitoring equipment metrics to ensure compliance with production specifications.
- Maintain accurate records and logs related to production and equipment performance.
- Participate in team-based problem-solving initiatives and contribute to continuous improvement efforts, including ELS initiatives for manufacturing performance enhancements.
- Lead shift turnover discussions, communicate daily priorities to the team, and ensure MDI boards are current.
- Foster a collaborative environment by assisting and supporting team members to meet departmental and site objectives, engaging in shared decision-making, and training others on line technician responsibilities as required.
- Be accountable for daily production maintenance, preventive maintenance, and housekeeping tasks per established standards.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or a minimum of 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
- A commitment to safety as a core value; willingness and ability to work safely and consistently wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
- A strong focus on quality and customer service.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to interpret and comprehend production-related documents.
- Capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Flexibility to work designated hours and accept reasonable overtime, including weekends.
- Demonstrated initiative, integrity, and sound judgment.
- Proven track record of contributing to daily ELS processes and tools—such as MDI, standard work, and 5S.
- A positive attitude, robust work ethic, and reliability.
- Proficiency with computer applications, with strong transactional skills in ERP systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds periodically throughout the shift.
Preferred:
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a skilled labor position with demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
- At least 2 years of experience in the Coating Department.
