Job description:
The Life Skills Program Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of Life Skills programming throughout the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) communities. Reporting to the Vice President of Partnerships & College and Career Readiness, this role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of Life Skills programs from conception to execution, which includes managing event logistics and evaluating program effectiveness.
In this capacity, the Program Specialist will oversee both new and existing programs, aligning efforts with the annual Life Skills plan. This position plays a critical role in bridging gaps in various Life Skills areas, including skilled trades, mental health, and physical health, while providing girls with opportunities and resources to become leaders. The Specialist will focus on both short-term and long-term objectives that support the strategic goals of the department and the overarching aims of the Council.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with the Vice President of Partnerships & College and Career Readiness to meet budgeting requirements, develop effective program strategies, achieve objectives, and manage partnerships efficiently.
- Research, coordinate, and oversee all Life Skills programming, which may involve facilitating and chaperoning certain workshops.
- Act as a leader and key participant in initiatives involving the Girl Advisory Board, Michigan Women’s Commission, United Nations Leadership Opportunity, and other council endeavors as needed.
- Serve as a project manager by tracking tasks, meeting deadlines, liaising with partners and vendors, securing venues, procuring necessary materials, creating evaluation plans for each program, and scheduling meetings with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with partners and vendors to deliver impactful and relevant programming across all GSSEM communities.
- Develop agendas for both internal and external meetings.
- Draft sensitive and high-priority correspondence, reports, and documents.
- Coordinate with the marketing and communications team to develop campaign strategies for all Life Skills events.
- Act as the primary point of contact for partners and stakeholders.
- Assist in managing event plans, timelines, and action items in collaboration with the Project Manager of Programs and Events.
- Monitor program budgets and work with the Fund Development team to secure grant funding for programs.
- Provide timely feedback on project plans and proposals.
- Arrange all event services such as catering and transportation as needed.
- Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Prepare and submit reports in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years of project or program management experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience working directly with vendors, external partners, and/or volunteers.
Position Qualifications:
- Registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the USA is required.
- Demonstrated skills in creative thinking and problem-solving.
- Strong administrative and organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in developing and delivering training materials, including comprehensive PowerPoint presentations.
- Experience supporting leadership and management initiatives.
- A proven track record of cultivating relationships with staff, volunteers, and community organizations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments to achieve shared goals.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite and a willingness to learn additional software programs.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
- Willingness to travel as required.
