JOB OVERVIEW
The Cook leverages their expertise in food production to ensure the safe, timely, and proper preparation and service of food in accordance with established recipes, while adhering to all food safety and sanitation standards and maintaining an orderly kitchen environment. This role also involves effectively managing all food production in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Responsibilities:

  • Upholding high standards for food quality and taste at all times.
  • Preparing and serving meals promptly according to standardized recipes and menus.
  • Utilizing production sheets to accurately document food production quantities and maintain cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
  • Preparing dietary modifications as ordered.
  • Using Sunrise systems for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy.
  • Stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products following food safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintaining clean and organized kitchen, storage, and work areas.
  • Completing assigned cleaning duties and ensuring accuracy in daily and weekly cleaning logs.
  • Keeping equipment logs and promptly reporting any issues.
  • Ensuring all cooking equipment is functional and safe, reporting any issues as necessary.
  • Complying with OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety regulations while adhering to safety procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Performing additional Dining Services duties as directed by community leadership, which may include:
    • Dishwashing tasks to properly wash and sanitize all dishes, utensils, and cookware.
    • Operating dish machines according to manufacturer instructions.
    • Carrying out light janitorial duties such as sweeping work areas, sanitizing production areas, and emptying trash.
    • Cleaning kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, fryers, microwaves, and more.
    • Assisting with service in dining areas as needed.

  • Actively participate in team goals and demonstrate our Team Member Credo in daily interactions.
  • Commit to serving our residents and guests through our Principles of Service.
  • Contribute to overall engagement programs for both residents and team members.
  • Attend required meetings, including Town Hall, Department Team, and others as designated by the Dining Services Coordinator (DSC).
  • Maintain compliance with required training and all training mandated by state/province or other governing authorities to ensure adherence to Sunrise standards.

Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of relevant experience in food preparation in a restaurant, hotel, or comparable environment preferred.
  • ServSafe® Manager or Food Handler Certificate.
  • Culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
