Job Title: Childcare Cook

Company: Early Start Childcare Llc

Location: Detroit, MI

Pay: $13 – 15 per hour

AI Pay Analysis: The hourly rate of $13 to $15 for a Childcare Cook in Detroit, MI, is somewhat below the national average for similar positions, which typically range from $15 to $20 per hour, depending on experience and location. While entry-level positions may start at the lower end of this spectrum, the cost of living in Detroit and the specific demands of cooking for children in a childcare setting suggest that this rate may be less competitive. Additionally, considering the responsibilities often associated with this role—such as meal planning, nutritional considerations, and food safety—offering wages at the higher end could help attract and retain qualified candidates. Overall, this pay range may require reconsideration to ensure alignment with industry standards.

Job description:

We are looking for a dedicated and skilled Childcare Cook to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals to children, in compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines. Additionally, the cook will develop a weekly menu and maintain a safe, clean, and efficient kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks for children, ensuring all meals adhere to CACFP guidelines for nutrition, portion sizes, and food safety.
  • Develop and create a weekly menu considering children’s nutritional needs, food allergies, and preferences.
  • Maintain inventory, order ingredients, and ensure the kitchen is well-stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and served in accordance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Collaborate with childcare staff to address the dietary needs of all children, including those on special diets.
  • Create a positive and enjoyable mealtime experience, promoting healthy eating habits among children.
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen, including daily cleaning tasks, sanitization, and proper food storage.
  • Communicate with parents regarding dietary concerns, changes, or special requests.
  • Adhere to all CACFP record-keeping requirements, including documentation of meal counts and portion sizes.
  • Comply with all local health and safety regulations.
  • Perform other kitchen-related duties as necessary to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in cooking or food preparation, preferably in a childcare, educational, or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of CACFP guidelines and experience adhering to these standards.
  • Ability to create and plan nutritious, balanced meals for children.
  • Strong attention to detail and food safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must pass a background check.

Benefits:

  • Competitive hourly wage ($13-$15/hr based on experience).
  • Opportunities for growth and additional shifts.
  • A friendly and supportive work environment.
  • Health and wellness benefits (if applicable).
