Job description:

As a Process Data Engineer, you will assume critical roles as a SQL Server Administrator, Data Engineer, and Data Scientist. Your responsibilities will encompass the installation, configuration, maintenance, and performance tuning of SQL Server databases, along with the design, implementation, and ongoing management of ETL pipelines. You will conduct comprehensive data analysis to facilitate data-driven decision-making processes, ensuring the availability, security, and integrity of database environments. Additionally, you will support application development and operational needs while employing data science methodologies to derive insights from extensive datasets. This position also entails collaborating with diverse teams to provide strategic insights regarding database architecture, optimization, and predictive modeling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Database Administration: Install and configure SQL Server instances in accordance with best practices and security standards. Perform regular maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and updates to ensure database health.

  • Data Engineering: Design, implement, and maintain efficient ETL pipelines to facilitate seamless data flow between systems. Integrate data from various sources, ensuring the architecture supports both operational and analytical workloads.

  • Data Science & Analytics: Conduct exploratory data analysis, develop predictive models, and deliver actionable insights from complex datasets. Utilize machine learning algorithms to identify trends, forecast outcomes, and inform business decisions.

  • Optimization & Performance: Monitor database performance and implement strategies to enhance efficiency and security. Tune queries and database structures to ensure optimal performance for both real-time and batch processing.

  • Security & Compliance: Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and high availability solutions, routinely testing these systems for reliability. Implement and monitor security protocols to safeguard data integrity and ensure compliance with industry standards.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with application developers, system administrators, data analysts, and other stakeholders to address database-related needs, provide technical support, and align data models with business objectives.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, data pipelines, processes, and procedures. Generate reports on database performance, ETL pipeline metrics, and data science outcomes for management review.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent work experience in SQL Server administration and data science may be considered.
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in SQL Server database administration, with expertise in SQL Server versions 2016/2017/2019/2022.
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer or Data Scientist, with direct involvement in data pipeline design and advanced data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Transact-SQL (T-SQL) scripting.
  • Experienced in performance tuning, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions, particularly Azure SQL Database.
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python or C#, as well as experience with data visualization tools.
  • Solid understanding of database security principles and data engineering best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling.
  • Proficient and knowledgeable in Ignition and Ignition SQL, as well as SAS Viya database requirements and analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a proven ability to manage and troubleshoot large datasets.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across functions.
  • Detail-oriented, with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation in both database management and data science methodologies.
