Job Overview
The role involves performing master-level mechanical work and supervising variously skilled mechanical technicians.

Essential Functions

  • Repair a range of mechanical equipment, including fans, seals, bearings, pumps, motors, laboratory apparatus, autoclaves, glass washers, water purification systems, utility systems, and structures, as well as engaging in welding and brazing activities.
  • Conduct periodic inspections and tests on installed equipment to ensure proper assembly of components and compliance with technical orders, blueprints, specifications, manuals, and established procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair complex steam pressure reducing systems, safety devices, condensate return systems, and steam traps; perform water treatment, testing, and application of chemicals. Additionally, repair critical laboratory exhaust systems, such as fume hoods, and inspect them for air balance.
  • May serve as a lead worker, responsible for supervising, instructing, and training semi-skilled and skilled Air Quality workers and tradespeople; assist supervisors in assigning work tasks and evaluating performance, while coordinating efforts with other trades.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards as dictated by the working environment.
  • Execute related duties as necessitated by departmental needs. This job description is subject to change at any time.

Required Education
An approved certificate from an accredited related apprenticeship program is mandatory. Two (2) years of related work experience and/or specialized training may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.

Required Trainings/Certifications
A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Required Experience
One (1) year of relevant experience is necessary.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

  • Active engagement in a physically demanding role that includes frequent lifting, reaching, bending, and climbing.
