Job description:

This position serves as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities and Operations, responsible for the coordination, planning, and supervision of athletic facility operations and events, notably overseeing the Student Center and Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex. The role is pivotal in ensuring the successful execution of events while maintaining compliance with facility regulations and optimizing resource management.

Key responsibilities encompass managing daily operations, overseeing maintenance, and supervising staff, all while aligning activities with the University’s mission, vision, and values. A strong emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and exceptional customer service is paramount.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage daily operations of the student center and athletic facilities.
  • Organize comprehensive game day event management for athletic contests, coordinating all necessary services, resources, and staffing.
  • Oversee facility maintenance in collaboration with external vendors and the University’s facilities team.
  • Coordinate and troubleshoot maintenance of technical systems for game day operations, including sound systems and scoreboards.
  • Schedule all athletic facilities for practices, games, and external events, developing and managing year-round practice schedules.
  • Create and implement revenue-generating programs for facility use, such as external camps, rentals, and special events.
  • Lead and manage logistics for external and internal camps, facilitating communication with all relevant campus departments.
  • Oversee hiring, training, development, evaluation, and management of staff at the student center and athletic facilities, including student workers.
  • Adjust facility hours of operation as needed and ensure adequate staffing levels for seamless operations.
  • Contribute to the development of operational best practices and improvements within the athletic department.
  • Conduct regular inspections to promptly identify and address maintenance needs.
  • Collaborate with University facilities to ensure timely maintenance and repairs.
  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for the facility, encompassing staffing, equipment, and supplies.
  • Assist the Executive Director of Intercollegiate Athletics with relevant athletic issues as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory policies, including NCAA, GLIAC, and relevant national affiliations.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by anticipating and exceeding client needs.
  • Uphold and promote the University’s cultural values.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in recreation, sports management, or physical education preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in campus recreation administration, athletic training, and fitness facility operations.
  • Strong knowledge of safety procedures and regulations pertinent to the role.
  • Technical proficiency in operating and troubleshooting sound systems, scoreboards, and other game day technologies.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in utilizing computerized data systems, including Internet applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and Publisher.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working effectively with diverse groups while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Proven ability to handle stress, adapt to changes positively, and resolve conflicts.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight stays, as necessary.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
