This position is based in our Sturgis, MI facility within the Abbott Nutrition division. What You’ll Work On:

  • Demonstrate the ability to execute the Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP) requirements effectively and fulfill departmental objectives.
  • Employ Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and aseptic techniques while conducting microbiological sampling, including air samples, swabs, steam, and water.
  • Perform testing for various pathogens, including Salmonella, Cronobacter, E. Coli, and Staphylococcus aureus.
  • Utilize aseptic techniques in controlled environments and apply various plating methods to identify target organisms.
  • Learn quality system components to aid in batch release and quality assurance processes.
  • Collaborate with fellow technicians, demonstrating motivation, attention to detail, and clear communication, recognizing the collective responsibility for departmental success.
  • Efficiently prioritize tasks and complete sampling at specified frequencies.
  • Report to the Lab Supervisor/FLL, working independently while adhering to applicable GMPs, FDA, USDA, OSHA, and Abbott policies and procedures.
  • Conduct samples aseptically and safely in accordance with established protocols.
  • Undertake environmental sampling within the production setting and ensure accurate documentation of all collected samples.
  • Prepare necessary tools and paperwork for sample collection.
  • Maintain housekeeping responsibilities, including waste disposal and laboratory sanitation.
  • Actively participate in and support Abbott’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Program, demonstrating accountability for performance and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to compliance standards, including those set by the FDA, OSHA, and Abbott policies.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least one year of experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environment (laboratory experience may include post-high school coursework).
  • Familiarity with operations in a GMP setting is essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
  • Capacity to work effectively within a team and as an independent contributor in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Skills in leveraging and engaging others to achieve project goals.
