Job Overview
The Associate Director of Facilities and Operations will provide comprehensive leadership for the facility and operational needs of the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) and its associated satellite facilities. As a member of the senior leadership team, the role encompasses professional and student staff management, strategic planning, fiscal development and oversight, facility and project management, oversight of third-party custodial and maintenance services, and the establishment of policies and procedures.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate as a senior leadership team member to develop and achieve the department’s mission, vision, and goals.
  • Supervise full-time staff directly and student staff indirectly, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and establishing performance plans.
  • Lead, guide, and mentor the Facilities and Operations team to foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Oversee facility and operational needs, including project coordination and management, HVAC operations, event management, climbing wall programming, scheduling, and staffing.
  • Work with Facilities Management to set priorities, responsibilities, and schedules to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained facilities, conducting regular safety inspections.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to procure fitness and facility equipment, coordinate preventative maintenance, repairs, replacements, and oversee installation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for construction and renovation projects, collaborating with the Campus Recreation team, architects, and contractors.
  • Manage contracts and agreements with vendors, suppliers, and service providers for capital purchases.
  • Implement industry-standard best practices in developing and coordinating safety and risk management policies, procedures, and equipment management, including access control and security systems.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, establish protocols, address incidents, and maintain records of accident and incident reports in consultation with UC Risk Management, Police Department, and Student Conduct.
  • Provide fiscal development and oversight for annual operating and capital budgets, prioritize purchase requests, approve expenditures, and resolve budget discrepancies.
  • Collect, analyze, and prepare reports on facility data, usage, member feedback, and recommendations.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of best practices for facility and operational trends to implement appropriate products, equipment, and services.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives that support Campus Recreation, Campus Services, and the University, actively engaging in departmental and university committees.
  • Availability for occasional weekend and evening hours.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Nine (9) years of relevant work experience and/or specialized training may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.

Required Certifications/Trainings

  • Certification/Licensure: American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers with First Aid certification, to be obtained within six (6) months of employment.

Required Experience

  • Five (5) years of direct and progressive experience in facility operations, maintenance practices, custodial services, building systems, and safety regulations within a recreation, municipal, or athletic context.

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Three (3) years of full-time supervision of professional staff, emphasizing hiring, training, development, and performance evaluation.
  • Experience in managing operating and capital budgets across multiple cost centers.
  • A solid background in facilities and operations, including supervision, maintenance services, project coordination, event planning, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated leadership in staff development and performance standards.
