Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. They ensure that products are delivered to customers on time and in excellent condition, while also serving as the face of our company and cultivating lasting relationships with clients. The driver will operate a tractor trailer or straight truck within intrastate and interstate routes, including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries. Responsibilities include unloading food and related products to customers in a safe and timely manner, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
– Communicate professionally and effectively with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to inquiries
– Collaborate as a team member, performing additional duties as required to support company operations
– Conduct required safety checks (e.g., pre/post-trip inspections) of the tractor/truck and trailer in compliance with DOT regulations and ensure company safety standards
– Report safety issues and needed repairs promptly
– Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safe driving policies
– Immediately report safety hazards and inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight
– Verify delivery items through accurate count checks and customer invoice reconciliation
– Complete all necessary paperwork associated with freight in a clear and legible manner
– Maneuver the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as necessary
– Drive according to the predetermined delivery schedule
– Unload products, transporting items to designated customer storage areas
– Conduct damage control checks on items, scan deliveries, and communicate with supervisors regarding order removals per company policy
– Confirm deliveries with customers, obtaining appropriate signatures
– Collect payments when required, securely loading customer returns on the trailer
– Ensure all equipment is properly secured, including locking tractors, trailers, and freight
– Manage damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork upon check-in
– Maintain daily records of service hours and accurately log data in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements
– Conduct general housekeeping duties in the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers clean and organized
– Secure all equipment and finalize required paperwork at the end of the shift
– Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
– Minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience
– High school diploma, GED, or a state-approved equivalent
– Valid CDL A
– Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements, where applicable
– Minimum age of 21
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years
– Successful completion of post-offer drug test and criminal background check
– Passing score on road test
– Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new one
– Capability to hand-lift and use necessary equipment (e.g., two-wheeler, lift gate) to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift, typically ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds depending on location
