Position Purpose:
As a Driver, Hourly CDL-A, you play a vital role in the country’s food supply chain. Our delivery drivers ensure that customer products arrive on time and in excellent condition while representing our company and fostering strong relationships with our customers.
You will be responsible for operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes to deliver and/or unload food and food-related products safely and promptly, following Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position requires professional communication and interaction with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring accurate and timely responses to inquiries. You will function as a collaborative team member, undertaking any assigned duties to best serve the company.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
– Conducting all necessary safety checks (i.e., pre/post trip) and performing inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer in accordance with DOT regulations. Reporting any safety issues or required repairs.
– Adhering to all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies.
– Promptly reporting all safety hazards and ensuring trailers are correctly loaded and secured.
– Performing inventory checks and accurately completing all relevant documentation associated with freight.
– Maneuvering the tractor to the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailers as needed.
– Delivering customer orders according to a predetermined route schedule, unloading products, and transporting items to designated storage areas.
– Conducting damage control checks, scanning items, and coordinating with supervisors on order removals per company policy. Verifying delivery with customers and obtaining signatures when required.
– Loading customer returns onto the trailer and securing trailer doors, ensuring all equipment and freight are properly locked and secured.
– Unloading damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork, and keeping trailers tidy.
– Maintaining daily records of service hours in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
– Performing general housekeeping duties in the tractor and loading dock areas and ensuring trailers are kept clean. Completing all necessary paperwork and securing equipment at the end of shifts.
– Executing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
– High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
– 6+ months of commercial driving experience.
– Valid CDL-A.
– Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (where applicable).
– Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
– Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
– Passing the road test.
– Attaining or currently holding a valid DOT Health Card, or the ability to secure a new one.
– Capability to hand-lift and utilize two-wheelers, lift gates, and other equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights, typically ranging from 10-35 pounds, and up to 60-90 pounds, depending on location.
