Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers play a pivotal role in maintaining the country’s food supply chain. As representatives of our company, our delivery drivers ensure that products arrive at customer locations on time and in excellent condition while fostering strong relationships with clients.
The Hourly CDL-A Driver is responsible for safely operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck on both local and national routes for the delivery and unloading of food and related products, adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers will interact professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring effective communication and teamwork to achieve the company’s goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct all required safety checks (i.e., pre/post-trip inspections) on vehicles, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards; report any safety issues or necessary repairs.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies.
- Report safety hazards immediately; inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
- Perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices, ensuring all paperwork is completed accurately and legibly.
- Position tractor at the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as needed.
- Deliver customer orders according to a predetermined route and schedule, unloading products into designated storage areas.
- Conduct damage control checks, scan items, and communicate with supervisors regarding order status; verify deliveries with customers and obtain signatures.
- Secure customer returns and ensure all freight is appropriately locked and secured.
- Handle damaged goods and customer returns per company policy, completing necessary paperwork.
- Maintain accurate daily records of service hours in compliance with federal and state requirements.
- Uphold housekeeping standards in the tractor, loading dock, and trailers.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- A minimum of 6 months of commercial driving experience.
- Valid CDL-A license.
- Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (if applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
- Successful completion of post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
- Ability to pass a road test.
- Attain or possess a valid DOT Health Card and obtain a new one as necessary.
- Capability to hand-lift and utilize equipment for moving and stacking freight of varying weights (generally ranging from 10-35 pounds, with heavier items up to 60-90 pounds).
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
