Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers are pivotal in the national food supply chain, ensuring timely and safe delivery of products to customers. In addition to delivering goods, our drivers represent the company and establish long-lasting customer relationships.
As a Driver, Formula CDL-A, you will be responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate routes—including local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight delivery—all while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Communicate and engage with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring prompt and accurate responses to inquiries.
- Collaborate as a team member within the department and the organization, performing assigned duties to support company objectives.
- Conduct safety checks, including pre/post-trip inspections of the tractor/truck and trailer per DOT regulations; ensure equipment meets company safety standards and take necessary actions.
- Report safety issues and required repairs immediately.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations and company driving policies while ensuring safe driving practices.
- Identify and report safety hazards; inspect trailers to confirm secure and accurate loading of freight.
- Perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices for loaded products.
- Accurately complete and maintain all required freight paperwork.
- Move the tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
- Drive to destinations and deliver customer orders according to the established route schedule.
- Unload products and transport them to designated customer storage areas.
- Conduct damage control checks on items, scan products, and notify supervisors regarding order removals per company policy.
- Verify item delivery with customers and obtain appropriate signatures.
- Collect payments, including cash or checks when required; securely load customer returns onto the trailer.
- Ensure that the tractor, trailer, and freight are secure at all times.
- Unload damaged goods and customer returns, and complete necessary paperwork; remove all trash and materials from the trailers as required.
- Maintain a daily record of hours of service and log it per Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
- Perform general housekeeping duties at the tractor, loading dock area, and keep trailers organized and clean as needed.
- Secure all equipment and complete paperwork at the conclusion of shifts.
- Undertake other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience.
- Valid CDL-A.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Compliance with all state licensing and/or certification requirements (where applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past 3 years.
- Pass post-offer drug tests and criminal background checks.
- Pass a road test.
- Valid DOT Health Card or ability to secure one.
- Capability to hand-lift and utilize relevant equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift (typically ranging from 10 to 35 pounds, and up to 60 to 90 pounds depending on the location).
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
- Familiarity with hand-held point of delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
- Previous customer service-related work experience.
