Position Details:

Position Purpose:
Food and food service delivery drivers are pivotal to our country’s food supply chain. These drivers are responsible for transporting goods using a tractor-trailer or straight truck on various routes, including intrastate, interstate, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight deliveries, ensuring compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Professionally communicate with customers, vendors, and colleagues, providing timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
  • Collaborate as a team member and perform assigned duties to best serve the organization.
  • Conduct mandatory safety inspections (pre/post trip) of vehicles to guarantee adherence to DOT regulations and company safety standards; address any issues promptly.
  • Report safety concerns and necessary repairs without delay.
  • Adhere strictly to DOT regulations and company policies related to safe driving.
  • Inspect trailers to ensure freight is loaded properly and securely.
  • Verify product counts and review customer invoices for accuracy regarding loaded items.
  • Complete all required documentation associated with freight in a clear and accurate manner.
  • Maneuver tractor to loading docks and secure preloaded trailers as needed.
  • Follow predetermined delivery schedules to drive and deliver customer orders.
  • Unload products onto designated areas at customer locations.
  • Conduct damage assessments, scanning items, and consulting with supervisors on returns per company policy.
  • Confirm receipt of items with customers and obtain necessary signatures.
  • Collect payments (cash or checks) when applicable; manage customer returns securely.
  • Ensure that all equipment, including the tractor, trailer, and freight, remains secure and locked.
  • Manage damaged goods and customer returns, completing requisite paperwork upon check-in.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of hours of service in accordance with Federal DOT, state, and company requirements.
  • Uphold cleanliness and order in the tractor, loading dock, and trailers as necessary.
  • Secure all equipment and fulfill paperwork at shift conclusion.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 12 months of commercial driving experience.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent state-approved certification.
  • Valid CDL A.
  • Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (if applicable).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
  • Successfully pass a post-offer drug test and criminal background check.
  • Completion of a road test.
  • Valid current DOT Health Card or ability to secure a new one.
  • Capacity to lift and utilize equipment for moving and stacking products of varying sizes, typically ranging from 10-35 pounds up to 60-90 pounds, depending on location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems, such as PeopleNet.
  • Experience with handheld point-of-delivery scanning systems (i.e., POD).
  • Background in customer service-oriented roles.
