Position Purpose:

As a food and food service delivery driver, you play a vital role in the nation’s food supply chain. You ensure that products reach customers in excellent condition and on time, serving as the face of our company while building enduring relationships with our clients.

The driver is responsible for operating a tractor trailer or straight truck for local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight routes, delivering and unloading food and related products in a safe and timely manner while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Engage professionally with customers, vendors, and co-workers, ensuring timely and accurate responses to inquiries.
  • Collaborate as an effective team member within the department and organization, performing various duties as needed to best serve the company.
  • Conduct all required safety inspections (i.e., pre/post-trip) of the tractor/truck and trailer to comply with DOT regulations, ensuring safety standards are met.
  • Report all safety concerns and any required repairs.
  • Adhere to all DOT regulations and company safety driving practices.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and inspect trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
  • Conduct count checks of items and verify customer invoices for the loaded products.
  • Accurately complete all required paperwork associated with freight.
  • Position the tractor at the loading dock and attach preloaded trailers as necessary.
  • Deliver customer orders according to the predetermined route schedule.
  • Unload products from the trailer and transport them to designated storage areas at customers’ locations.
  • Perform damage control checks on items, scanning them and consulting with a supervisor as needed.
  • Confirm delivery with customers and obtain appropriate signatures.
  • Collect payments (cash or checks) when required, and secure returns in the trailer.
  • Ensure all equipment, including the tractor and trailer, are secured.
  • Manage damaged goods and returns, complete necessary paperwork, and remove trash from trailers as needed.
  • Record daily hours of service accurately in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the tractor, loading dock, and trailers as required.
  • At the end of each shift, secure all equipment and complete necessary documentation.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 6 months of commercial driving experience.
  • High school diploma/GED or equivalency.
  • Valid CDL A.
  • Compliance with all applicable state licensing and certification requirements.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for the past three years.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer drug test and background check.
  • Passing score on the road test.
  • Valid current DOT health card or the ability to secure a new one.
  • Ability to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of various sizes and weights; products typically range from 10 to 35 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 to 90 pounds, depending on location.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six months of route delivery experience utilizing ramps and dollies.
  • Familiarity with onboard computer and electronic log systems (e.g., PeopleNet).
  • Experience with handheld point-of-delivery scanning systems (e.g., POD).
  • Background in customer service.
