Who We Are

The Classification and Compensation Division is tasked with delivering comprehensive services related to job classification and compensation, including job analyses, organizational design, compensation studies, and salary equity reviews, as well as the creation and modification of position descriptions.

Position Summary

As the Classification and Compensation Analyst III, you will play a pivotal role in our team, reporting directly to the Chief of Classification and Compensation. Your responsibilities will include researching and analyzing position descriptions to determine classification and compensation, evaluating Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) implications, and reviewing employee coding as necessary. You will benchmark compensation and classification both internally and externally, compile salary information for surveys, and offer consultation to departments regarding salary planning, compensation practices, promotions, and policy adherence. This position carries a city-wide impact and will require collaboration with diverse stakeholders addressing a variety of needs and concerns.

Examples of Duties

  • Assist in designing, administering, and continuously improving municipal compensation programs, processes, and tools.
  • Participate in compensation surveys and analyze results to benchmark positions, identify market trends, and inform compensation decisions.
  • Lead and administer merit planning activities throughout the fiscal year.
  • Advise managers, supervisors, and employees on competitive hiring practices and compliance with Classification and Compensation policies.
  • Utilize market data and internal comparables to aid in the development and maintenance of municipal salary structures.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Human Resource leaders and industry contacts.
  • Extract, analyze, and maintain compensation data within HRIS software.
  • Evaluate existing programs and procedures to support continual improvement initiatives and develop innovative solutions for identified challenges.
  • Support management in formulating policies during collective bargaining.
  • Conduct job evaluations and analyses to ascertain appropriate job and pay levels, as well as FLSA classifications.
  • Develop and manage compensation reports, metrics, and tools.
  • Plan and coordinate communication and training efforts to support new compensation programs.
  • Collaborate with other Human Resources functions to ensure accurate compensation data management in HRIS.
  • Develop and revise job descriptions, titles, and codes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

What You Need to Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of experience in Compensation.
  • Working knowledge of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.
  • Advanced expertise in compensation analysis and job evaluation techniques.
  • Proficiency in Excel and experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, etc.).
  • Strong ability to convey complex compensation concepts to individuals at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
  • Experience managing extensive and complex compensation projects.
  • Familiarity with salary structure development and maintenance.
  • Experience in extracting and managing compensation data in HRIS systems (e.g., UltiPro, Workday, Oracle, ADP, Ceridian, etc.).

Licenses and Certifications

  • Participation in continuing education opportunities related to this position may be required.
