Job description:
In collaboration with key staff from the Grange Insurance Audubon Center (GIAC) and Audubon, the Community Building Coordinator will play a pivotal role in fostering meaningful relationships with organizations and community members throughout Central Ohio, while supporting initiatives outlined in Audubon’s Strategic Plan, Flight Plan. Under the guidance of the Engagement Manager, the Coordinator will co-design and implement programs and stewardship activities that actively engage community members with the National Audubon Society, the GIAC, and local natural areas. This position requires travel throughout Central Ohio to community organizations and natural sites, along with a commitment to working 1-2 weekends a month.
Essential Functions
- Collaborate with GIAC staff to design and deliver educational programs, field trips, and stewardship days that raise awareness of GIAC and local natural areas.
- Assist in executing the Conservation Classroom, camp programs, and various center activities and special events.
- Support volunteer management, including outreach, recruitment, and training efforts.
- Partner with the Engagement Manager to represent the organization at community events.
- Cultivate trusting and productive relationships with team members, partner organizations, and community leaders through active participation in community events, site visits, and field trips.
- Deliver offsite programming or events in collaboration with participating partners.
- Contribute to the development of messaging materials for priority projects and communities, including social media content, brochures, handouts, and presentations.
- Maintain thorough administrative documentation for grant reporting, communication schedules, and utilize appropriate program tools, while preparing meeting agendas as necessary.
- Administer and compile program feedback forms and evaluations.
- Support front desk operations as needed.
- Connect interested participants with stewardship activities and groups.
- Foster a culture of philanthropy, including public funding efforts.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Americas to jointly plan and execute shared priorities.
- Uphold and promote a culture of safety.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, ecology, natural resources, or a related field is required.
- 0-2 years of relevant experience in ecology or habitat restoration; an equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
- Familiarity with avian ecology is beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort in engaging with the public and external partner organizations.
- Ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams that include individuals from various backgrounds.
- Capacity for physical exertion in outdoor settings, in all weather conditions and on challenging terrain, while maintaining a positive attitude to inspire volunteers, interns, and work crews.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, adaptable to reach a broad audience and effective in building consensus; able to synthesize and convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, GIS, and statistical analysis software.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and reliable transportation are required, with availability for local travel.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
