This position is situated within the Nutrition and Food Service department at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI. The primary objective of this role is to prepare nutritious, high-quality meals for our esteemed Veterans.

Duties
Major responsibilities include:
- Preparing and cooking meals requiring minimal processing, such as hot cereals, concentrated or dehydrated soups, sauces, and gravies.
- Adhering to menus, production sheets, and recipes to produce items in the specified quantities.
- Grilling eggs, meat patties, pancakes, and French toast; broiling meats; preparing cold sandwich fillings and assembling a variety of sandwiches.
- Preparing fresh, canned, and frozen vegetables; baking frozen potatoes, pre-made cookie dough, and muffin batters.
- Preparing and heating convenience items such as frozen hash browns, fish fillets, and chicken nuggets.
- Making pureed foods and adjusting consistency as needed.
- Washing, peeling, and cutting fruits and vegetables; assembling and mixing salad ingredients and dessert items, including gelatin molds and fruit crisps.
- Weighing, measuring, and assembling ingredients for both regular and modified diets.
- Operating various kitchen equipment while adhering to safety protocols.
- Portioning foods for distribution and service.
- Following sanitary food handling procedures.
- Disassembling and reassembling equipment for cleaning purposes.
- Cleaning and sanitizing work areas and performing deep cleaning tasks as necessary.
- Covering, dating, and storing leftovers according to established standards.
- Operating dishwashing equipment.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Rotating days and weekends from 11:00 am to 7:30 pm, including holidays. Further details may be provided during the interview process.

Additional Information
Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). All HCP must receive an annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Masks are required for those exempted from the vaccination. Non-compliance may result in disciplinary action.
In accordance with VHA Directive 1193.01, HCP are also required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless accommodations apply. Selected candidates must provide proof of vaccination before starting.
