Job Overview
The Cook is responsible for using their culinary expertise and experience to ensure the timely and safe preparation and service of meals according to established recipes, strictly adhering to food safety and sanitation standards while maintaining an organized kitchen. In the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator, the Cook will effectively manage all food production operations.

Responsibilities
As a vital member of the Sunrise team, supporting our Mission, Principles of Service, and Core Values is integral to this position. Our foundational belief emphasizes the sacred value of human life. The unique responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Upholding high standards for food taste and quality consistently.
  • Preparing and serving meals promptly in line with established recipes and menus.
  • Utilizing production sheets to accurately document food production quantities and monitor cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
  • Preparing necessary dietary modifications as requested.
  • Following Sunrise systems to ensure accurate order taking and meal delivery.
  • Stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, storage, and work areas.
  • Completing assigned cleaning tasks and maintaining accuracy in daily and weekly cleaning logs.
  • Keeping accurate equipment logs and promptly reporting any issues.
  • Ensuring all cooking equipment is functional and safe, reporting issues as they arise.
  • Complying with OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requirements, including adherence to safety policies and procedures, as well as using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Performing other Dining Services duties as assigned by community leadership, including:
    • Executing dishwashing tasks to properly wash and sanitize all dishware, utensils, and cookware.
    • Operating dish machines according to manufacturer instructions.
    • Conducting light janitorial duties, such as sweeping work areas, sanitizing production spaces, and managing waste.
    • Cleaning assigned kitchen equipment including stoves, ovens, fryers, microwaves, and more.
    • Assisting with service in dining areas as required.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in food preparation, preferably in a restaurant, hotel, or similar environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Required certifications and ongoing training: CPR Certificate, First Aid Certificate, ServSafe® Manager Certificate, and Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
  • Culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Displaying good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
