Job Overview
The Cook utilizes expertise in food production to guarantee the efficient, safe, and timely preparation and service of food, following established recipes and adhering to all food safety and sanitation standards. This position is also responsible for effectively managing food production in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
As an integral member of the Sunrise team, your role is aligned with our Mission, Principles of Service, and Core Values, emphasizing our core belief in the sanctity of human life. Your specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following essential functions:
- Uphold high standards of food taste and quality at all times.
- Prepare and serve meals in a timely manner, adhering to established recipes and menus.
- Utilize production sheets to accurately document food production quantities and maintain proper cooking and holding temperatures.
- Prepare necessary dietary modifications as directed.
- Employ Sunrise systems for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy.
- Stock, rotate, date, and store products in accordance with food safety standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in kitchen and storage areas.
- Complete assigned cleaning responsibilities and ensure accuracy in daily and weekly cleaning logs.
- Keep accurate equipment logs and promptly report any issues.
- Ensure all cooking equipment remains in safe working order, reporting any malfunctions immediately.
- Comply with OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requirements, adhering to safety procedures at all times, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout Tagout procedures.
- Perform additional Dining Services duties as assigned by community leadership, which may include:
- Dishwashing to properly clean and sanitize all dishes and utensils.
- Operating dish machines in accordance with manufacturer instructions.
- Performing light janitorial tasks, including sweeping work areas, sanitizing production spaces, and managing waste disposal.
- Cleaning assigned kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, fryers, microwaves, mixers, slicers, refrigerators, freezers, prep sinks, ice makers, coffee machines, hoods, and ventilation screens.
- Assisting with service in dining areas as needed.

- Attend regular meetings, including Town Hall, Department Team, and other meetings as directed by the Dining Services Coordinator (DSC).
- Maintain compliance with all required training and regulatory training applicable to this role to meet Sunrise’s high standards.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in food preparation within a restaurant, hotel, or similar environment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Continuing compliance with required certifications and training as mandated by Sunrise and applicable regulations, including:
- CPR and First Aid Certificates.
- ServSafe® Manager Certificate.
- Local Health Department Food Handler Card.
- Culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Demonstrated sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
