Job Overview:
As a Cook, you will leverage your expertise in food production to ensure the prompt, safe, and accurate preparation and service of meals according to established recipes. You will maintain high standards of food safety and sanitation while effectively managing food production in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.

Responsibilities:
Embracing our mission, principles of service, and core values is essential in this role. Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Upholding high standards for food taste and quality at all times.
  • Preparing and serving meals punctually, adhering to standardized recipes and menus.
  • Accurately recording food production quantities and cooking temperatures using production sheets.
  • Implementing dietary modifications as prescribed.
  • Utilizing Sunrise systems for order-taking and meal delivery to ensure precision.
  • Ensuring proper stocking, rotation, dating, and storage of products in compliance with food safety standards.
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly kitchen, work areas, and storage spaces.
  • Completing assigned cleaning duties and verifying the accuracy of daily and weekly cleaning logs.
  • Keeping accurate logs for kitchen equipment and promptly reporting any issues.
  • Ensuring all cooking equipment is safe, operational, and reported for maintenance as needed.
  • Complying with OSHA, British Columbia Workers Compensation Act regulations, and safety procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Performing additional dining services duties as assigned by community leadership, which may include:
    • Properly washing and sanitizing dishes, utensils, and cookware.
    • Operating dish machines according to manufacturer guidelines.
    • Conducting light janitorial duties, such as sweeping work areas and sanitizing production spaces.
    • Cleaning assigned kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, microwaves, and refrigerators.
    • Assisting with service in dining areas as required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience in food preparation within a restaurant, hotel, or similar setting is preferred.
  • ServSafe® Manager or Food Handler Certificate is required.
  • Culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
