JOB OVERVIEW
The Cook plays a pivotal role in food production by ensuring the timely and safe preparation and service of meals in accordance with established recipes and food safety regulations. Additionally, the Cook is responsible for effectively managing all food production operations in the absence of the Dining Services Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALIFICATIONS
Responsibilities:

- Upholding high standards for food taste and quality at all times.
- Preparing and serving meals promptly, following standardized recipes and menus.
- Utilizing production sheets to accurately document food production quantities along with cooking, holding, and cooling temperatures.
- Preparing necessary dietary modifications as prescribed.
- Implementing Sunrise systems for order taking and meal delivery to ensure accuracy.
- Stocking, rotating, dating, and storing products in accordance with food safety standards and regulations.
- Maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, including storage and work areas.
- Completing assigned cleaning duties and ensuring the accuracy of daily and weekly cleaning logs.
- Keeping accurate equipment logs and promptly reporting any issues.
- Ensuring all cooking equipment is maintained in safe working condition and reporting any problems immediately.
- Complying with OSHA/British Columbia Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulation requirements, including Risk Management policies and procedures.
- Performing a variety of Dining Services duties as assigned by community leadership, including:
- Dishwashing tasks to ensure all dishware, cutlery, and cookware are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Operating dish machines according to manufacturer instructions.
- Performing light janitorial duties, including sweeping, sanitizing production areas, and disposing of trash.
- Cleaning kitchen equipment, including stoves, ovens, fryers, and refrigerators.
- Assisting with service in dining areas as needed.

- Actively participate in and commit to team goals.

- Contribute to engagement initiatives for residents and team members.
- Attend regular meetings, including Town Hall and Department Team meetings, as directed by the Dining Services Coordinator (DSC).
- Maintain compliance with required training and state/provincial mandates to ensure adherence to Sunrise standards.
Qualifications:
- One (1) year of relevant experience in food preparation in a restaurant, hotel, or similar environment is preferred.
- ServSafe® Manager or Food Handler Certificate.
- Prior culinary apprenticeship or training is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Demonstrated good judgment, problem-solving skills, and decision-making capabilities.
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities effectively.
