Job description:
As a Data Engineer with a focus on analytics, you will play a critical role in connecting data engineering and data analysis by developing robust data models and pipelines that enhance analytics and reporting capabilities. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure that our data infrastructure maintains high standards of accuracy, performance, and accessibility.
This position is situated within the GEO-IS Data Platforms Product Development team, which is dedicated to enhancing our GEO-IS Solutions data infrastructure. While our current data pipelines and infrastructure are based on-premises, we are in the process of migrating to a cloud-based system later this year. In this role, you will contribute to the design, optimization, and transition of data pipelines to the cloud, as well as develop new pipelines that emphasize scalability and efficiency.
We seek a candidate with experience in optimizing Power BI performance and integrating Power BI with Azure-based data solutions. The successful candidate will ensure efficient data processing, facilitate optimal report performance, and create seamless integrations between our data infrastructure and Power BI.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design and develop data models that support business intelligence (BI) and analytics, prioritizing performance and scalability.
- Construct and maintain data pipelines that convert raw data into clean, usable datasets.
- Execute data transformations utilizing SQL and scripting languages such as Python.
- Collaborate with data engineers to ensure data availability and integrity.
- Validate data outputs for accuracy and consistency through thorough testing methods.
- Implement data quality checks and maintain thorough documentation of data practices.
- Engage with stakeholders to define relevant metrics, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting needs.
- Assist in transitioning on-premises solutions to cloud-based systems.
- Enhance BI tools (e.g., Power BI) by creating efficient data models to improve performance.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to team best practices, including documenting data models and processes as well as enforcing data governance and security protocols.
- Monitor pipeline performance and resolve data inconsistencies and bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with the team to optimize database performance and storage solutions.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of experience in data transformation, data modeling, and analytics engineering.
- Proficiency in SQL and query optimization across a variety of databases.
- Strong programming skills in Python for data processing and automation.
- Familiarity with Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools.
- Experience with Azure cloud-based data solutions.
- Hands-on expertise with ETL/ELT frameworks and workflow automation tools.
- Strong understanding of data modeling and schema design for analytics and reporting.
- Proven experience in migrating on-premises data pipelines to the cloud, covering strategy, execution, and optimization.
- Experience optimizing Power BI performance and integrating it with Azure.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with Azure Fabric, Azure Synapse, or Databricks.
- Knowledge of infrastructure-as-code principles (e.g., Terraform, ARM templates).
- Familiarity with data transformation tools such as dbt.
- Understanding of data governance and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Experience working in Agile environments with CI/CD processes.
- Relevant certifications in Azure Data Engineering or other cloud technologies.
- Awareness of data visualization best practices.
Additional Information:
The annual salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $150,000. This role is based onsite, and candidates must be able to commute to the office. Expeditors allows for 26 remote workdays per year, providing flexibility as needed. Our team operates closely together onsite, contributing to employee growth and job satisfaction.
This position is available full-time, requiring 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday, with a professional office attire policy. Applicants must have the legal right to work in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
