Position Overview as a Direct Support Professional (DSP):
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and mental health challenges. Your contributions will help residents achieve personal goals, live independently, and enhance their quality of life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and Care: Guide and encourage individuals daily to help them meet their goals, adhering to person-centered and behavior plans.
  • Foster a Safe Environment: Create a trusting atmosphere where individuals feel secure, supported, and respected, while upholding their rights.
  • Meal Preparation and Housekeeping: Prepare meals according to dietary requirements and assist with household tasks to maintain a safe and organized environment.
  • Transportation and Advocacy: Transport individuals to appointments, advocate on their behalf, and assist with necessary documentation.
  • Medication Administration: Administer prescribed medications and ensure accuracy in dosages.
  • 24/7 Availability: Remain awake and accessible in homes that require round-the-clock care.
  • Supervision of Daily Activities: Assist individuals with personal care, life skills, and social activities.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • High school diploma or GED preferred
    • Minimum age of 18 years
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Compassion and patience when interacting with individuals experiencing mental illness and co-occurring disorders
  • Preferred:
    • 1-2 years of experience in healthcare, social services, or a relevant field (not mandatory)
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Capacity to work in environments with potential exposures to physical aggression and infectious diseases
