Breakthrough Public Schools is a nationally recognized Charter Management Organization (CMO) network in Ohio, dedicated to empowering Cleveland area scholars through a transformative education that fosters joy, curiosity, and individual growth. Our mission is to equip students from kindergarten through eighth grade with the academic, social, and emotional skills needed to thrive both academically and as engaged citizens. We serve 3,000 K-8 grade scholars across five schools and employ over 450 dedicated staff members, all committed to the success of every child.
The CMO provides essential operational, leadership, and strategic services to our network of schools, uniting them to create a cohesive and high-performing educational community. By offering economies of scale in staffing, resources, and operational efficiencies, we strengthen the overall impact of our schools.
Breakthrough Public Schools is currently seeking a passionate and collaborative Director of Family Partnership to join our Family Experience team. This full-time position is vital for enhancing relationships among our network, schools, and the diverse community of current and prospective families. The Director will spearhead initiatives that strengthen family-school connections, enhance school-based experiences, improve scholar retention, and promote equity-driven engagement practices.
Reporting to the Managing Director of Family Experience, the ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker who thrives in diverse environments and is dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging within the school community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Network Leadership
- Champion Breakthrough’s vision for family experience and engagement across the network.
- Lead the implementation of network-wide family partnership initiatives focused on culture, relationship-building, and community collaboration.
- Provide guidance and training on high-impact, equity-centered family engagement practices to school leaders and staff.
- Research and advocate for culturally responsive best practices in family engagement.
- Demonstrate high emotional intelligence and integrity in interactions with diverse stakeholders.
Scholar Retention
- Develop and implement a comprehensive scholar retention strategy aimed at reducing no-shows and minimizing attrition.
- Analyze data to identify root causes of withdrawals by campus and create criteria to assist schools in identifying and engaging families at risk of leaving the network.
- Establish consistent, two-way communication channels with families, ensuring year-round feedback mechanisms.
- Maintain accountability through clear follow-up and communication plans.
- Conduct regular outreach to support first-year families in their experiences.
Network Initiatives and Capacity-Building
- Organize network and community events to foster relationships and promote family engagement.
- Maintain ongoing communication with families to ensure access to academic and emotional support resources.
- Design and implement family feedback surveys, developing action plans with schools based on results.
- Assist families in understanding academic standards and scholar progress, strengthening their relationships with network staff and schools.
- Develop community partnerships aligned with family engagement objectives.
- Lead cultural competency training for staff to facilitate effective engagement with diverse families.
School Initiatives and Capacity-Building
- Collaborate with school staff to create impactful family partnership strategies, organizing both in-person and virtual opportunities for engagement.
- Train and support school staff in onboarding and family programming.
- Guide school teams in creating welcoming, culturally responsive environments.
- Implement systems that encourage family comfort and participation within schools.
- Empower schools to establish robust family advisory councils with high participation levels.
- Assist school leaders in addressing family feedback and concerns.
- Coordinate volunteer opportunities that align with family interests and skills.
- Collaborate on outreach strategies for families facing various barriers.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Support ongoing scholar recruitment efforts, including school tours and enrollment assistance.
- Recruit and manage family and scholar ambassadors to enhance engagement.
- Develop a new family onboarding protocol in conjunction with school teams.
- Execute initiatives to nurture and engage returning families over the summer.
Data and Progress Monitoring
- Identify and monitor metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of family engagement efforts.
- Support school and network leaders in interpreting data and developing responsive action plans.
- Utilize feedback tools to assess satisfaction and enhance programs.
- Monitor the clarity and consistency of home-school communications.
- Evaluate the implementation of family engagement initiatives at schools and provide actionable recommendations.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, Human Services, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in family support roles, including family engagement, social services, or community organizing, with supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of family systems and educational frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
- Bilingual candidates are preferred.
The position is based in the CMO’s central office in Cleveland, Ohio, with travel required to schools in the Cleveland area.
