Job description:
Under direction, this position is responsible for the planning, coordination, promotion, and evaluation of programs, projects, activities, and special events within the Recreation and Parks Department, as well as performing related duties as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
– Organize, coordinate, schedule, and monitor various activities and special events, including weddings, corporate functions, family gatherings, exhibits, festivals, lectures, concerts, theatrical performances, and classes.
– Research, identify, and develop marketing and publicity strategies; prepare press releases, newsletters, flyers, pamphlets, and public service announcements, while maintaining relationships with media personnel to effectively promote activities and events.
– Coordinate the branding of departmental programs and events, and manage the use of event trademarks.
– Develop evaluation systems for programs and events, monitor activities, and compile periodic progress reports.
– Research and conceptualize various programs and events, submitting proposals for necessary approvals.
– Review and select artists and performers for events; engage in contract negotiations and management of terms.
– Attend meetings and participate in boards, committees, and commissions to facilitate program planning and coordination.
– Recruit, oversee, and train volunteers and contract staff involved in various programs and events.
– Prepare reports, financial summaries, and correspondence; maintain accurate records as required.
– Oversee the preparation, maintenance, and clean-up of recreation and park facilities for special events.
– Coordinate necessary city services for events; negotiate, schedule, and monitor contract personnel and service providers.
– Serve as a liaison to groups and committees regarding cultural arts programming and events, facilitating discussions between artists, program participants, and the public.
– Secure funding and in-kind contributions for cultural arts programs and events.
– Assist in preparing grant applications, budget proposals, and program descriptions.
– Project and determine costs for the implementation of programs, projects, or events.
Minimum Qualifications:
– A bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in planning, coordinating, or promoting programs or special events. Additional relevant experience may substitute for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.
– A valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
