Job description:
Functions as the primary strategic business leader of the property, responsible for all operational aspects, including general property performance, food and beverage operations, sustaining sales and marketing strategies, achieving profitability, managing revenue generation, conducting human resources activities, and delivering returns on investment for both Marriott International and property ownership.
Leads the team in developing and implementing property-wide strategies, ensuring the execution of brand service strategies and initiatives aimed at exceeding guest expectations. Fosters relationships with key customers and actively engages in the sales process.
Candidate Profile:
Education and Experience
- A two-year degree from an accredited university in Business Administration, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related field, coupled with four years of experience in guest services, front desk operations, housekeeping, sales and marketing, management operations, or a related professional area; OR
- A four-year bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related field, along with two years of experience in guest services, front desk operations, housekeeping, sales and marketing, management operations, or a related professional area.
Job Specific Tasks
Managing Property Operations
- Ensures implementation and execution of service programs (e.g., Refreshing Business, Service Snapshots, Service So Memorable).
- Provides timely, constructive feedback to management and staff regarding service and operational standards, addressing even the smallest details.
- Manages labor distribution across departments to effectively control labor budget and meet profitability objectives.
- Establishes and supports clear lines of responsibility for the management team, ensuring comprehensive oversight throughout operational hours.
- Prepares for Quality Assurance audits, including daily and pre-visit activities.
- Reviews and follows up on property Guest Satisfaction Scores and comments.
- Acts as project manager for capital improvements, including renovations and signage updates.
- Walks the property to ensure all public spaces, grounds, work, and kitchen areas comply with sanitation and cleanliness standards.
- Oversees adherence to major brand standards (e.g., HSIA, the Market, TPS A.M. Eats).
- Delegates operational and project responsibilities to the appropriate levels of staff.
Managing Food and Beverage Operations
- Monitors Food and Beverage forecasting and inventory levels to minimize waste and maximize profit margins.
- Provides immediate feedback to management and staff on service and operational standards, including minute details.
- Establishes strong local vendor relationships to support food and beverage needs.
- Ensures that bar and kitchen areas maintain quality standards in organization, productivity, sanitation, and inventory management.
- Conducts periodic compliance audits with Back of House staff to ensure the use of job aids.
- Offers coaching on operational procedures and technology troubleshooting.
Managing and Sustaining Sales and Marketing Strategy
- Collaborates with the Regional Sales office to implement property sales strategies, including goal setting and rate adjustments.
- Works with Market Sales to establish sales strategies, goals, and action plans.
- Identifies and champions creative marketing initiatives that align with brand and property needs.
- Participates in property sales review meetings.
- Develops and nurtures relationships with decision-makers at key accounts.
- Innovates approaches to capturing new revenue streams through property amenities.
- Interacts with in-house guests to identify new business opportunities.
- Ensures that direct sales staff effectively use e-tools (e.g., e-proposals, email signatures).
- Identifies revenue-generating stakeholders and communicates insights to sales offices.
- Coaches associates on selling strategies that leverage property amenities.
- Ensures implementation of all national and regional marketing programs.
- Hosts customer recognition events to drive sales initiatives.
- Monitors market competition to leverage sales and marketing advantages.
- Assesses sales strategy with the Regional Sales Office for ongoing effectiveness.
Managing Profitability
- Oversees controllable on-property costs for rooms, housekeeping, events, and food and beverage operations.
- Analyzes and communicates property performance using various financial and non-financial data.
- Provides updates and communicates profit forecasts to staff and management.
- Initiates actions to support property revenue and profitability objectives.
- Understands how food and beverage product variability influences profitability.
- Reviews and approves invoices and reconciles reports to resolve discrepancies.
- Consolidates necessary reports for period-end review.
- Reviews property performance on a regular basis with the Regional Director.
- Ensures compliance with Avendra procurement standards.
Maintaining Revenue Management Goals
- Manages relationships with the revenue management office, participating in strategy and update meetings.
- Reviews and utilizes revenue management reports to inform decision-making.
- Balances inventory to support effective sellout strategies.
Managing and Conducting Human Resource Activities
- Guides associates through property changes, facilitating transitions into new roles.
- Understands all performance expectations for hotel positions.
- Conducts daily HR transactions to support property needs (e.g., compensation actions, hiring requisitions).
- Completes management training and facilitates training programs for associates.
- Encourages cross-training for professional growth and operational excellence.
- Oversees ongoing management development through coaching and stretch assignments.
- Monitors hiring and compensation trends, ensuring awareness of any changes.
- Manages the performance review process for associates.
- Supports recruitment efforts across various channels to attract qualified associates.
Managing Relationships with Property Stakeholders
- Keeps brand leadership, owners, and above-property stakeholders informed of property performance across financials, guest satisfaction, and associate engagement.
- Prepares and presents reporting for owners, utilizing financial data to demonstrate the efficacy of the Refreshing Business model.
- Conducts property critiques and annual business reviews.
- Engages in owner conference calls and responds appropriately to inquiries.
- Addresses off-property requests for sales information promptly.
Additional Responsibilities
- Manages email and daily correspondence.
- Participates in conference calls regarding sales, promotions, and property performance.
- Provides follow-up information to the Regional Director and other managers.
- Prepares for Regional Director visits by compiling relevant reports.
The salary range for this position is $88,000 to $114,000 annually.
