As a Hospice Aide/ Certified Nursing Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Reporting to the Administrator, Executive Director, or Patient Care Manager Senior, and operating under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor
- Supporting patients in maintaining good personal hygiene
- Assisting in creating a safe and healthy environment
- Preparing and serving light meals
- Providing assistance with feeding when necessary
- Aiding patients with ambulation
- Facilitating the safe use of walkers or wheelchairs as instructed by nursing staff
- Performing light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens
- Assisting with designated treatments as outlined in the aide plan of care and as permitted by state-specific regulations
- Promoting mental alertness through engaging activities tailored to patients’ interests
- Offering basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and household members
- Reporting any observed changes in the patient’s mental or physical condition or home dynamics to the Registered Nurse and interdisciplinary team members
- Demonstrating basic care techniques to primary caregivers
- Implementing infection control measures and standard precautions
- Providing accurate documentation of visit itineraries
- Attending staff meetings
- Participating in at least one Quality Improvement activity annually as assigned by a supervisor
- Completing documentation promptly as outlined in orientation
About You
Qualifications for a Hospice Aide/ CNA:
- A compassionate and empathetic disposition, demonstrating a "hospice heart" toward patients and their families
- Comfort in providing care in various environments considered home by patients
- Adaptability and composure when supporting others through crises
- A valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license
- A minimum of six (6) months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatrics, or oncology is strongly preferred
- Additional preferred experience that may contribute to success in this role includes hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float pool, ER, critical care, acute care, cardiac, geriatrics, admissions, wound care, or telemetry nursing
- Current driver’s license and automobile insurance
- Current CPR certification
