Job description:

Supports the kitchen by ensuring the safe handling, appropriate holding, serving, and storage of food. Responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen area. The starting pay rate is $16.00 per hour.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the department and staff in delivering safe, presentable, and properly portioned food.
  • Restock food supplies on the line, including paper goods and stock items.
  • Provide support to the cook, dishwasher, and stock personnel.
  • Oversee the flow of the line, ensuring appropriate food handling and portion sizes.
  • Offer assistance to volunteers and manage client needs, including special meal requests.
  • Ensure the line is properly set up, with all food held and served at the correct temperature.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the serving area and manage the storage or disposal of food leftovers that cannot be re-served.
  • Sign invoices for deliveries in the absence of the Director, Inventory Stock person, or Cook.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen area, equipment, and shelves throughout the assigned shift.
  • Ensure that all leftover food items are sealed, dated, and stored in accordance with regulations.
  • Unload and organize stock as shipments are received, as needed.
  • Adhere to uniform standards, including wearing hair coverings, appropriate shoes, and gloves while handling food.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager or the HLC Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Entry-level kitchen experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience in food volume production or culinary/hospitality training is desirable.
  • Must be able to routinely lift and carry boxes weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to navigate stairs as needed for building evacuations, drills, or during elevator maintenance.
  • Understanding of kitchen equipment usage is essential.
  • Must be capable of standing for extended periods throughout the scheduled shift.
  • Ability to withstand high temperatures for prolonged durations.
  • Proficient in handling knives, sharp objects, cleaning chemicals, and working in various noise levels.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, especially in dealing with the public and intoxicated individuals.
