Job description:
The Lead Clerk position serves as a key trainer within the assigned unit, providing essential support and guidance to clerks while they navigate their daily tasks. The Lead Clerk must possess comprehensive knowledge of all unit responsibilities to effectively backfill for colleagues in their absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Provide clerical support to the Clerk’s Office and assist the Senior Supervisor within the designated unit.
- Answer and appropriately direct incoming telephone calls.
- Utilize the Juvenile Court case information system to enter and retrieve court-related data.
- File stamp documents upon receipt for official filing.
- Process requests for certified copies of documents.
- Prepare and sort inter-office and outgoing mail for delivery.
- Manage the filing and processing of complaints, motions, pleadings, journal entries, and related documentation.
- Prepare records for appeals and requests for transcripts.
- Seal and expunge records according to judicial orders.
- Respond to fax requests, track, and retrieve legal files.
- Initiate family information, and assign case numbers and judges to respective case files.
- Process, scan, and proof returned service, journal entries, and other court-related documents.
- Update case party and attorney information as required.
- Issue warrants, service, notices, process Civil Protection Orders, bonds, and IV-D information.
- Provide frontline support to resolve work-related issues, consulting with the Senior Supervisor as necessary.
- Serve as the lead trainer for all new staff within the assigned unit to ensure adherence to training protocols and unit procedures.
- Assist the Senior Supervisor with updates to procedures and protocols.
- Act as a positive peer mentor for new staff, facilitating their acclimatization to the Clerk’s Office.
- Provide coverage and resolve work-related issues during the Senior Supervisor’s absence, including liaising with the iCase help desk.
- Offer feedback to the Senior Supervisor on additional training needs and recommend procedural improvements.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities for others.
Equipment Operated
The Lead Clerk will operate standard office equipment, including copy machines, personal computers, and telephones.
