Job description:
The Life Skills Program Specialist is responsible for the development and implementation of Life Skills programming within the Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) communities. Reporting to the Vice President of Partnerships & College and Career Readiness, this role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle of Life Skills programs, from conception through execution, including event logistics and program evaluation.
The Program Specialist will manage both new and existing initiatives, aligning them with the yearly Life Skills plan. This position is vital in addressing gaps in various Life Skills areas—such as skilled trades, mental health, and physical health—and in providing resources and opportunities for girls to cultivate their leadership abilities. The specialist will focus on achieving both short-term and long-term goals that support the strategic objectives of the department and the overarching goals of the Council.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Partnerships & College and Career Readiness to align budgeting requirements, develop program strategies, fulfill objectives, and manage partnerships effectively.
- Conduct research and fully manage all Life Skills programming, including serving as a facilitator and chaperone for select workshops.
- Act as a leader and essential contributor for the Girl Advisory Board, Michigan Women’s Commission, United Nations Leadership Opportunity, and other Council initiatives as needed.
- Execute project management tasks, including tracking deliverables, meeting deadlines, liaising with partners and vendors, securing venues, procuring necessary materials, devising evaluation plans for each program, and organizing stakeholder meetings.
- Partner with vendors and organizations to deliver impactful programming across GSSEM communities.
- Develop agendas for both internal and external meetings.
- Compose sensitive and high-priority correspondence and documents.
- Collaborate with the marketing and communications team to devise campaign strategies for all Life Skills events.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for partners and stakeholders.
- Assist in managing event plans, timelines, and action items alongside the Project Manager of Programs and Events.
- Monitor program budgets and coordinate with the Fund Development team to secure grant funding.
- Provide timely feedback on project plans.
- Arrange event-related services such as catering and transportation as needed.
- Build strong relationships with community partners.
- Prepare and submit reports promptly.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Essential Requirements:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred.
- A minimum of three years in project or program management.
- A minimum of three years of experience collaborating directly with vendors, external partners, and/or volunteers.

- Registration as a member of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. is required.
- Demonstrated skills in creative thinking and problem-solving.
- Proficient administrative and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to provide training and develop comprehensive PowerPoint presentations.

- Proven success in cultivating relationships with staff, volunteers, and community organizations.
