Job description:

Under general supervision, the Manager Trainee is responsible for comprehensively learning the management of small driver count and/or non-traditional shifts, including nights and weekends. The key objective is to ensure the safe and timely movement of freight, effective load assignment, and the delivery of best-in-class customer service. This role will be trained to ensure compliance with DOT regulations, overseeing all drivers’ adherence to company regulations while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate accurate planning, routing, monitoring, and delivery of freight and loads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier onboarding, reduce turnover, and enhance ongoing productivity.
  • Provide support during personnel absences and assist on special projects aimed at optimizing fleet operations and enhancing profitability.
  • Acquire proficiency in personnel management, including the training and orientation of drivers and/or employees, and assist with internal and third-party systems training.
  • Master efficiency in fleet operations and profitability, earning the ability to make recommendations for continuous improvement while measuring key performance indicators and creating, maintaining, and presenting customer-specific reports and financial analyses during face-to-face meetings.
  • Gain knowledge in managing inventory, assets, and customer pools, as well as the assignment of drivers to appropriately balance equipment in the market.
  • Execute administrative duties, which include payroll processing, management of the Net-Revenue budget, driver counseling, accident reviews, documentation, pay issue resolution, and the analysis of P&L statements, invoicing, or creating operational and financial reports.
  • Oversee yard management tasks, including equipment checks/inspections, component replacements (such as mud flaps), repairs, and coordinating with maintenance to ensure timely scheduling of preventative maintenance and resolution of safety-related mechanical issues.
  • Collaborate with drivers, customers, and company personnel to address service issues, routing and planning challenges, mechanical problems, and accessorial pay inquiries as they arise throughout the day, including when on call, if necessary.
  • Uphold the Company’s safety culture through the delivery of daily safety messages, monthly driver safety briefings, quarterly driver training, and annual reviews, while enforcing company policies to meet DOT compliance and safety requirements.
  • Assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to guarantee safe, on-time service while adhering to customer requirements, managing freight exceptions and adjusting driver ETAs based on pick-up and delivery schedules and other environmental factors on the road.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualification:

  • A High School Diploma/GED combined with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training, or current enrollment in a degree program with up to 2 years of relevant education, experience, and training, or a Bachelor’s degree. Candidates must be willing to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends as required, and must be open to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable.

Preferred Qualification:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least 1 year of relevant education, experience, and training.

Compensation:
