GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE
The Master Stylist is tasked with engaging guests, assessing their hair care needs, and recommending appropriate products and services. This role emphasizes delivering high-quality professional services while focusing on the guest’s overall appearance. The Master Stylist collaborates with the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) to enhance performance in service sales and productivity while prioritizing superior guest service and adherence to operating procedures and compliance standards. This position requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional customer service skills, and the ability to effectively communicate product knowledge.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (*Essential Functions)
The Master Stylist exemplifies Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values through the following responsibilities:

Performance

• Deliver a range of hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (as applicable).
• Achieve or surpass sales goals of $1,250 in average weekly sales and meet productivity targets for hair services, thereby contributing to overall store objectives related to service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink as established by Ulta Beauty.
• Conduct product demonstrations to enhance guest experiences and drive sales.
• Assist in executing in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an unparalleled guest experience.
• Stay informed on industry trends, products, and services, ensuring knowledge of their ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

People

• Foster guest relationships through consultations and tailored retail and service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk-ins, efficiently and promptly.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a comprehensive and well-rounded guest experience.
• Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners to collectively enhance guest experience.
• Promote the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, to salon and salesfloor patrons.
• Participate in mandatory training sessions and meetings for ongoing professional development.

Process

• Ensure thorough knowledge of and compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control protocols before, during, and after services, adhering strictly to state board guidelines.
• Implement established service protocols to guarantee a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
• Utilize appropriate booking and clientele systems to arrange return services and events for guests.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure continuous guest readiness.
• Maintain exemplary operational standards within the store, including cleanliness of the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any additional assigned spaces.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
• Protect company assets by implementing loss prevention best practices and providing outstanding guest service.
• Complete additional operational tasks as directed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education

• Valid cosmetology license.

Experience

• Previous relevant work experience is required.

Skills

• Proficient in contemporary salon techniques, including haircutting, hair color, styling, texture services, treatments, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (as applicable), with an aptitude to expand capabilities across all service categories.
• Proficient in using the equipment and chemicals necessary for technical work.
• Skilled in demonstrating, recommending, and selling professional hair care and makeup products.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Strong ability to build and maintain customer relationships and client bases.

SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Availability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The pay range for this position is between $10.70 and $15.20 per hour, or as determined by the Company’s Services Compensation Plan. Compensation will depend on various factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, shift, geographic location, and organizational needs. Eligible associates may also receive overtime pay as mandated by applicable laws, along with tips earned from service guests.
