Job description:
The Youth Treatment Specialist is responsible for delivering daily care, guidance, and supervision to adolescents residing in a residential treatment program. This position involves overseeing the treatment plans of individual residents and managing the daily operations of the residential unit.
Responsibilities:
- Foster a therapeutic environment characterized by warmth, empathy, and respect.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of individualized treatment programs; facilitate and support various programs, including therapy, employment training, recreational activities, and educational services.
- Observe and monitor resident behavior, holding adolescents accountable according to established agency interventions. Act as a teacher, supporter, and role model during daily interactions.
- Apply knowledge of non-violent crisis intervention techniques (Aegis) to safely manage residents who may pose a risk to themselves or others, including the preparation of necessary documentation.
- Serve as a stable, positive role model for residents, balancing an authoritative role with a supportive helping relationship.
- Exhibit respect for others and an understanding of their diverse needs and feelings, fostering an attitude of nurturance, patience, and acceptance.
- Oversee the general health and wellbeing of residents, assisting with meals, physical activities, personal hygiene, and medical care; provide first aid or CPR when necessary and schedule appointments as directed.
- Administer medications as prescribed and scheduled.
- Facilitate transportation for residents to appointments, activities, and other engagements as required.
- Maintain accurate and organized records and reports of all activities related to the residential program’s management.
- Ensure the upkeep of a clean and orderly home environment; supervise and engage with residents in fulfilling assigned responsibilities and meeting housekeeping standards.
- Promptly report any personal or property damage to the appropriate administrative personnel following established procedures.
- Actively participate in supervision and team meetings to share ideas and feedback and to contribute to departmental planning. Encourage and provide constructive feedback to the Supervisor for staff evaluation purposes.
- Ensure timely compliance with Quality Assurance standards relevant to staff roles and responsibilities.
- Uphold professional confidentiality at all times, safeguarding the rights of residents and their families in accordance with the agency’s Confidentiality Policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the home supervisor, assistant supervisor, or shift supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in English is required; bilingual in Spanish is highly preferred.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required; further education or certification in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior experience working with adolescents who have emotional or behavioral disorders is preferred.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
