Actalent Services (formerly EASi LLC) is seeking an Engineering Project Manager for a permanent leadership position overseeing industrial automation and controls engineering projects within our Manufacturing Engineering Practice. Ideal candidates will possess technical expertise as a controls engineer along with a proven track record in project management across diverse manufacturing sectors. This role offers hybrid/remote flexibility with minimum travel (less than 25%) for candidates located near our engineering center in Troy, MI.
The Project Manager will oversee a portfolio of projects, both onsite and offsite, guiding them through all phases of development—from initiation and planning to execution, monitoring, control, and closure. The role will require close collaboration with program management to recruit or hire internal employees and consultants for projects. Additionally, the Project Manager will work with internal support functions to ensure an exceptional customer experience while providing leadership to project teams, ensuring alignment with Cost, Quality, and Timing requirements. Building and maintaining relationships with key customer stakeholders and Actalent’s engineering teams will be essential for enhancing project performance in alignment with customer business objectives.
Essential Functions
- Manage multiple center-based and onsite projects through all development phases while adhering to Actalent’s Services Management Framework (SMF).
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, quality standards, regulatory requirements, company procedures, and safety protocols.
- Develop and oversee project plans, budgets, schedules, and associated documentation, including change management and risk mitigation strategies.
- Implement tracking methods to monitor customer and internal KPIs.
- Collaborate with the Delivery Operations team to align project management with account management.
- Allocate workflows effectively from customers to Group Leaders and Practice Managers.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with all customer stakeholders.
- Leverage program management skills—including communication, presentation, time management, organization, and planning—to meet program goals and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Conduct periodic status meetings with customers and teams to evaluate progress against the project plan.
- Prepare and present weekly and monthly status reports to Actalent Services’ management and designated client recipients.
- Work closely with Delivery Operations to address all project-related issues with customers and suppliers in conjunction with Actalent’s internal teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of overall professional experience in manufacturing or industrial maintenance environments.
- At least 5 years of controls engineering experience, including expertise in PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting.
- A minimum of 3 years in a project management or project engineering role—leading projects, assigning tasks, scheduling, and ensuring accountability for project delivery.
- Prior experience with Rockwell Automation PLC using RS Logix and Control Logix programming required.
- Familiarity with Rockwell Automation HMI and FactoryTalk; experience with Ignition or other SCADA systems is advantageous.
- Experience with integrators or automation engineering service providers is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in presenting to large groups of customers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing virtual or dispersed teams with diverse skill sets.
- A collaborative spirit and ability to operate effectively within a highly cross-functional and virtual environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically as needed, not exceeding 25% (~1 trip every 4 weeks).
- PMP certification is a plus; proven knowledge of project management methodologies is required.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Pay and Benefits
The compensation for this position ranges from $100,000 to $130,000 annually, including a $10,000 annual bonus potential, an employee profit-sharing program, four weeks of paid time off, six paid holidays, a monthly cell phone allowance, a 401(k) with company match, and medical, dental, and vision benefits.
