Job description:
The role offers a remarkable opportunity for an individual to contribute to the sustained growth and development of the North American Analytical Center of Excellence. The primary responsibility of this position is to employ scientific methodologies to support our applied research and product development initiatives, addressing paint and coating challenges for our North American operations.
This role involves interaction with various employees and access to confidential and proprietary information, which may be supervised or unsupervised. In this role, there will be a significant emphasis on support for field failure investigations, manufacturing challenges, and physical characterization. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize various instruments and methods to produce valid, high-quality, and defensible analytical results.
- Communicate analytical findings and conclusions effectively.

- Provide prompt responses to field failures, product developments, and manufacturing issues.
- Develop and modify methods and procedures as required to meet specific business needs.
- Assist and train colleagues in instrument operation and analysis as appropriate.

- Adhere to safety, quality (e.g., ISO), and housekeeping protocols.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying without requiring future sponsorship for a work visa or permanent residency.
Formal Education:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.
Knowledge & Experience:
Required:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an Industrial Analytical Laboratory.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects in a collaborative environment.
- Proficiency in interfacing with various business units to fulfill customer needs.
- Strong attention to detail and record accuracy.
- Basic understanding of statistics and data analysis.
Preferred:
- Experience in coatings or polymer technology.
- Familiarity with analytical techniques such as FTIR, GC, GCMS, microscopy, HPLC, particle size analysis, or thermal analysis.
- Skills in the maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation.
Technical/Skill Requirements:
Required:
- Experience with scale-up procedures for manufacturability.
- Knowledge of the paint industry.
- Experience in developing products for architectural markets.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 10%.
Upon completion of construction, the selected candidate will primarily work at the new Sherwin-Williams Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio, expected to be completed in 2025. Until then, the role will be based at the Breen Technology Center, located at 601 Canal Road, Cleveland, OH 44113.
