We are seeking a dedicated Residential Support Specialist (RSS) to join our team at Avalon, where we believe that housing is a fundamental human right. As front-line support staff, our Residential Support Specialists offer 24-hour assistance, manage front desk operations, respond to tenant and visitor inquiries, and provide hands-on support when needed.

Job Responsibilities:
- Manage visitor check-ins and check-outs, answer phone calls, and monitor security systems
- Ensure the safety and security of residents by overseeing common areas and enforcing program rules
- Intervene in crises, respond to emergencies, and coordinate necessary actions, including liaising with emergency services
- Facilitate service coordination for tenants and collaborate with external service providers as needed
- Work collaboratively with other onsite staff and visiting service providers, and refer tenants to clinical staff when appropriate
- Initiate maintenance requests as necessary
- Participate in staff meetings, retreats, and professional development training sessions
Supplemental Job Duties:
- Depending on location, RSS staff may assist tenants with daily living activities such as meal preparation, medication management, shopping, and other hands-on support.
- This position includes a weekly on-call shift, compensated at an hourly rate plus bonus.
- Training is required to begin within the first 30 days of employment, with some training conducted outside regular shift hours. All training time is compensated.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to engage effectively with a diverse group of individuals, including staff and tenants, in a non-judgmental manner
Desired Skills and Abilities:
- A minimum of one year’s experience serving individuals who are homeless or dealing with mental illness, chronic health issues, or addiction, or educational experience in social or behavioral sciences or a related field
- Capacity to manage crisis situations effectively
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in computing, including email, web searches, and online documentation
- A positive and enthusiastic attitude with a strong commitment to assisting those in need
- Interest in and experience with individuals who may be challenging to engage, as well as familiarity with harm reduction principles

This position is based in Ann Arbor, MI 48105, and offers part-time hours with multiple shift options, including a $1 per hour premium for midnight shifts.
