SCOPE: As a Uniformed Security Officer, you will be responsible for safeguarding the safety of the building, grounds, assets, employees, students, and visitors. Your role will encompass protection against criminal activity, accidents, fires, and natural disasters, while also providing exemplary customer service to clients and visitors.

COMPENSATION:

• Rate of Pay: $17.00/hour

LOCATION: Grand Rapids, MI

JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver exceptional customer service when interacting with clients, customers, co-workers, and visitors.
• Maintain guard posts, which may include monitoring building lobbies or reception areas.
• Conduct hourly foot patrols of the interior and exterior to verify that entrances, doors, windows, and vents are secure against unauthorized access (this may include climbing stairs).
• Monitor surroundings utilizing closed-circuit television.
• Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.
• Verify identification for employees and vendors.
• Identify suspicious individuals, packages, and activities.
• Administer first aid or other medical assistance in emergency situations, as necessary.
• Operate x-ray and/or metal detection equipment as required.
• Adhere to site-specific post guidelines.
• Report hazardous conditions and items in need of repair, including lighting, plumbing issues, and wet floors.
• Document daily activities and prepare incident reports.
• Officers are prohibited from smoking while in DK uniform, whether on or off duty.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Candidates must possess good moral character and pass a criminal background check, with no felony convictions and no misdemeanor convictions involving criminal sexual conduct, theft, assault, or other offenses reflecting negatively on moral character.
• Successful completion of a drug test at the time of hire and on a random basis thereafter is mandatory.
• Impeccable grooming in accordance with the Appearance and Grooming policy is required.
• A friendly and professional demeanor must be maintained in interactions with clients, employees, supervisors, managers, and the general public.
• Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to solve problems and de-escalate situations non-confrontationally. Proficiency in reading and writing English is necessary for interpreting safety rules, operating procedures, and reports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email is expected.

• A valid driver’s license is required.

• The applicant must have a clean driving record, including fewer than three moving violations and fewer than two at-fault accidents within the last three years, with no major violations.
• Willingness to become CPR/1st Aid/AED certified is necessary (prior certification preferred).

Physical Requirements:

• Must be physically and mentally fit.
• Ability to use hands and fingers, reach with arms, and hold objects.
• Capacity to sit, stand, or walk for 8-12 hour shifts, including negotiating long distances and stairs.
• Must be able to respond promptly to emergency situations.
