Senior Network Engineer
Responsibilities:
- Design, plan, deploy, monitor, and maintain a Fixed Wireless ISP to enhance network reliability and scalability.
- Lead the design and deployment of IP/Layers 2 and 3 networks, emphasizing Reliability, Availability, Serviceability, and Manageability.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for network design and deployment, promoting the adoption of ISP platforms.
- Mentor and coach junior technical staff on network design, deployment, implementation, and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Cultivate a culture centered on Reliability, Availability, Serviceability, Manageability, and Affordability.
- Design, deploy, maintain, and provide coaching on customer LAN and other network configurations.
- Undertake additional tasks as required by management.
Duties:
- Provision and support DWDM Network and Ethernet Demarcation equipment.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Address alerts and outages, resolving incidents promptly.
- Review and apply relevant security patches and updates.
- Assist with escalated network-related issues from Tier 2 support and priority clients.
- Document network changes and maintain updated network diagrams.
- Ensure adherence to security policies and best practices.
- Analyze network traffic and performance trends to inform decision-making.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including firmware updates and log reviews.
- Optimize routing and switching configurations for enhanced performance.
- Test and verify backups of network device configurations.
- Collaborate with fiber and wireless teams on upcoming changes or projects.
- Conduct security audits and vulnerability assessments to ensure network integrity.
- Revise and update network documentation and associated policies as necessary.
- Plan and execute network upgrades or capacity expansions.
- Enhance Quality of Service (QoS) and optimize bandwidth utilization.
- Assess vendor contracts and evaluate new technologies for potential integration.
- Collaborate with deployment teams on Fiber and Fixed Wireless expansion initiatives.
- Develop and maintain project plans for all network-related and customer projects.
- Create and maintain documentation for customer networks.
Project-Based/Long-Term Tasks:
- Design and implement new network infrastructures, including core upgrades and new site deployments.
- Implement redundancy and high-availability solutions to enhance network resilience.
- Manage large-scale migrations, including IPv6 adoption, CG-NAT, and MPLS over MikroTik.
- Develop automation scripts to improve network efficiency and monitoring capabilities.
- Collaborate on the development of security frameworks and protocols.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior network administrators.
Requirements:
- 5 to 7 years of demonstrated experience in Fixed Wireless ISP, as well as IP and network design.
- Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, VRFs, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, and Spanning Tree protocols.
- In-depth expertise in circuits and ISP routing protocols.
- Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Comprehensive understanding of carrier Ethernet networks, LAN/WAN networks, IP protocols, routing, switching, network management, and security practices.
- Strong customer relations abilities.
- Familiarity with wiring and installation standards for network equipment.
- Knowledge of computing system technologies and environments, including servers, PCs, and storage systems.
- Proficiency with vendor platforms such as Mikrotik, Cambium, Telrad, Tarana, Nokia, Adtran, and Zhone.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with soft switch dial translations, call routing, and related functionalities in design, deployment, maintenance, and coaching.
- Background in VoIP, POTS, and other voice service design, deployment, maintenance, and coaching.
- Familiarity with provisioning circuits across telephony networks.
- Experience in statewide or regional carrier networks and LEC call routing.
- Knowledge of MetroEthernet standards.
