The primary responsibility of the Dental Assistant is to enhance the success of clinicians by delivering the Perfect Patient Experience (PPE) and fostering lifelong patient relationships (Patient for Life – PFL). Dental assistants carry out various patient care, office, and laboratory duties, preparing patients for oral examinations and assisting dental professionals in providing treatment for the teeth, mouth, and gums. Effective collaboration with co-workers, including specialty dental assistants, patients, and front office staff, is essential. A successful dental assistant demonstrates active listening skills, honors commitments, keeps colleagues informed about work progress, and addresses challenges constructively to identify practical solutions.
Specialty Dental Assistants may be assigned to areas such as Endodontics, Oral Surgery, Orthodontics, Periodontics, or Pediatrics, where additional training may be required to support clinicians effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Perform duties in accordance with the applicable state’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties.
- Actively contribute to the PPE by prioritizing patients’ treatment while addressing their individual needs and concerns.
- Escort patients to and from the front desk, introducing them to relevant team members as appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with both front and back office teams to ensure an efficient scheduling process for orthodontists.
- Maintain a clean, sterile, and welcoming environment.
- Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, ensuring operatory cleanliness in compliance with state infection control guidelines.
- Prepare patients for treatment and assist the dentist in delivering high-quality dental care.
- Complete radiographs and intra-oral photos at the clinician’s direction, ensuring efficiency and timeliness.
- Prepare tray setups for dental procedures and maintain adequate supply levels in each operatory.
- Keep patients’ mouths dry and clear utilizing suction and other devices as necessary.
- Instruct patients on postoperative care and general oral health as directed by the clinician.
- Record patient charting and clinician notes in digital patient charts as directed.
- Support patient care by presenting treatment records, consent forms, and health histories to clinicians prior to treatment.
- Ensure equipment maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with the Lead Dental Assistant to ensure sufficient clinical supplies.
- Utilize technology proficiently, including operating and demonstrating tools for others.
- Participate in daily morning huddles, monthly team meetings, and any necessary meetings.
- Model company culture and values, adhering to best operational practices.
- Uphold the PDS Brand by making decisions aligned with its framework.
- Implement the Perfect Patient Experience process to cultivate Patient for Life connections.
- Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor consistent with company policies while interacting respectfully with others.

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), along with specific training mandated by the state for certification, licensure, or registration.
- Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: As required by the applicable state.
- Specialty Dental Assistants must possess a valid driver’s license and automobile insurance, verified through a background check and motor vehicle record check at hiring.
- Specialty Dental Assistants are required to travel timely to multiple offices throughout the day and must have a reliable method of transportation. If lacking a valid driver’s license and insurance, an alternative reliable transportation means is necessary, accommodating frequent and potentially unplanned travel.
Preferred:
- A one-year certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
